Since you guys scour the CL and Ebay religiously if you come across a 600 supersport (typical japanese crotch rocket) for ~$2500-$4000 let me know. A coworker is looking to get a bike and no matter how many times I beat it into his head that he should start on an SV650 so he doesn't kill himself or go into the poor house he wants something faster and flashier.
He's a good kid but there are definite douchebag tendencies. I'm hoping I can convince him to ride with me a few times before he goes off and kills himself.

How much are you looking to get for it?
I haven't figured out exactly how much. Probably $2500 or so. I need to see what they are going for, take pics and write up an add. Hopefully this weekend. Interested?

Re Sumos for short people, you can ride a tall one and just scoot off to one side when you stop. They are so slim/light it shouldn't be much of a trouble. Honda has a 230 supermoto that's really short too.
I saw the Duke, cool bike.

I've been looking for a beater woods bike in the 1k-1250 range. Bought my son an xr70 last year and I currently ride a Kawasaki Brute Force 750 Atv. Hard to justify another off road machine......
Good luck!

That's what I did when I test drove the Multi 1200.
Reminds me of a friend back in high school, she's shorter than me and rode an Aprilia RX 50. She would lay down that bike on a weekly basis... good times!
I saw a Suzuki 350-something sumo at work some time ago, and it got me thinking...
wasn't too tall at all and looked nice.

probably a DR350 lowered slightly and had a set of 17" hoops put on it, so it was a custom jobby...but still a cool ride.

Blue book is $5100 however it's negotiable because it's cosmetically damaged, and it needs a battery. Starts right up on jumper cables. Front fairing is cracked, probably repairable. I think my paint guy can do something with the side fairing and tail has a big scrape... also I see that there's a few after market complete body kits on ebay for $468 to $568. It also needs the right mirror and right mirror brace. I believe that's everything it needs.
So it doesn't need a lot of work, but it does need some work. I figured I'd post it up and see what kind of offers I get. Don't low ball me because i won't accept it. I'm not in need of money, and this isn't an insurance buy back, there was no claim put it in since it's minor cosmetics. I am willing to sell it at an honestly fair price (that we both consider is fair) considering the damage though. If no one responds in a couple of days I'll fix everything and list it asking for $5100.
Email me, text me, (preferable) or you can call and leave a message (with offer) and i'll call you back..
240-353-9175
not sure what he's lookin to get...but it went slidin and needs a battery as well as skins and who knows what else and god knows what the service history is like....if he thinks he can get more than $3K currently, he is out of his gourd...and if he relists it repaired without disclosure trying to get full retail, he is also smokin kitty litter....

I always like that attitude: "Don't try to offer me what a damaged bike is worth 'cause I'll just spend a bunch of money to fix it up and sell it for BlueBook even though it's a buyers market right now". Well good luck dude. I'm always tempted to immediate offer guys like this $500.00, or better yet ask them the name of the planet they're from.

The Suzuki DR250/350s are a little shorter than most "full size" dirt bikes. I've had a couple of them. Not super fast, but really smooth and have nicely spaced 6-speed transmissions that let you get the most from the motor. There's lots of room to get more power from them as well - big bore kits up to 455cc, pumper carbs, cams, exhaust etc. The bottom end/gearbox is essentially indestructible (and heavy). I built a 350 up from parts to use for dual sporting and city commuting when I lived in Cambridge Mass. I sold it last summer though to fund the desert bike. I still commute on my wife's DR250SE quite often - great city run-about. My 350 was a pretty simple build. I took off all the uneeded stuff like the rear sub-sub frame, passenger pegs and fitted FMF exhaust for an approx 30lbs weight savings. Then I dropped in a high compression piston, pumper carb, opened up the air box and fitted the usual big plastic tank, renthal bars, cycra handguards, heated grips etc and it was ready to rock.
The CRF450R wouldn't make a great beat-around woods bike I think. Its a pretty serious competition machine with unbelievable performance. It'd take a national caliber rider to hang onto it in the woods. I race B-class in the woods and its too much of a handful for me. Of course if you just wanted to putter around you could ride a couple of gears high and demolish the straights at will
