The exhausts on the new Multi are cool and make a lot of sense... these er.. why a double can look that's actually one big stonking bit of metal...
I've got nothing against the new Multi exhausts. In fact, I like them enough to leave mine alone. However, "they" are actually a one-piece item made to look like two-piece. My first thought on seeing the photos was that the exhaust was following the trend of the new Multi and taking it to an extreme.

I quite like the exhaust on the 1200. Look good and a smart design IMO.. And yeah I know they are really all one unit hiding behind that shield - but at least some effort was made to conceal it. They could have at least done some heat shield with a gap to give one the illusion...

I also think there's no flow to the bike. looks like a pear if you stand her on her rear wheel.

I am also going to reserve judgement until it is finished.... but I'll say I do like the direction if only for new potential buyer in this market.

if its water cooled then it looks like a sorta crusier style streetfighter really,
Yep. My first thoughts ... a streetfighter made to look ... umm ... heavier.

This is the usual response to any new model here. All models except the new Multi, mostly because the old Multi was so freaking ugly, were completely trashed. The outrage when they redesigned the Monster. All the comments when they presented the Streetfighter. Where are those comments now? Once it's released and people get a chance to take a good look and test ride it, then people drink the Ducati kool-aid
nah...just impolite to keep trashing them. Making a comment once early on is enough...I don't, and nobody does really, need to keep at it. In fact we've asked some people to stop the constant trashing and when they didn't they were asked to leave. It gets downright annoying and nasty.

What's all of the grumbling about? I like it and would definitely ride it. [moto]
Ducati is a business you know. There is no shame in trying to reel in another market.
And to all of you who are complaining about the stock exhaust...Why do you care?
Seriously... it's another Ducati that will come from the factory with a shotgun style exhaust. You've already seen and accepted this exhaust on other models. It's nothing new.
Stock motorcycle exhausts are ranked #1 on the proverbial list of expendable parts that the consumer will immediately remove and replace with an aftermarket alternative. So the way I see it, as long as the manufacturer (Ducati in this case) can produce a stock exhaust that meets EPA noise standards and has an acceptable basic design for the aftermarket to base their product on (the shotgun - You've seen it and accepted it), you really shouldn't waste too much energy hating it.
Honestly, I think this is all "fat tire" hate.

Another article on this bike:
http://hellforleathermagazine.com/2010/06/spy-photos-2011-ducati-vyper-p.html
Justification for this new model:
- New motorcycles are being marketed to boomers because they've got money and time
- Boomers like cruisers because they're... well... old (no offense, dad)
- HD will likely go belly up in the next 2 years
- Ducati doesn't want to miss the opportunity to win some of that market

Aesthetically, this 'rendition' can't be judged as it's not finished. Nowhere close by the looks of all the parts-bin bolt ons.
The muscle-bike market has always held some interest for me but I'm a drag-racing nut-job and that's not most of the Duc-market...

looks like they took a brutale, beat it with a baseball bat, destroyed everything decent about it, and then stuck an 1198 engine inside, added some ugly bits to cover the brusies, lowered the rear, and then made it uglier
god that's hideous....beyond hideous
the rear wheel, however, is tight....and i'm sure it will be better looking when it gets fully dressed (notice all the wires hanging) but till then it's pretty bad

Well, I'm technically too old to be a boomer, but I personally don't like cruisers. I can't qualify to ride one anyway- no tats, always ride with a full-faced helmet. And, I actually own an H-D, but it's kept out-of-state and ridden by others.
My Monsters are sporty enough without going the crotch rocket route. I guess it's the old man-young woman thing.
I think H-D will last more than 2 years, but they're marketing to a shrinking demographic. They seem to be managed like the oil companies- wring out every last penny from a diminishing marketplace.
Ducati? Well, they are making business decisions that we may not agree with, in terms of their model offerings. But, you have to admit that they have done a good job of managing themselves into good financial health.
