There's no room for the spacer on the old bracket.  The swingarm rod rests exactly against the bracket, and the bolt screws down pressing against the bracket itself, no washer.

I'm interested to know why they altered them.  I have occasionally found it difficult to slide the bracket onto the shaft, which I was at one time doing once a week, to put the stock on so my girl could get a ride.  Now that I have S&P passenger rearsets, that's nolonger happening, and I haven't found any issue

MattC7

can you girl tell me the difference between the position of the stock vs S&P pegs and comfort? Although I have the S&P I've yet to take anyone for a ride.

They are wider set, and have eccentric pegs fro adjustment.  They are at the lowest setting, just baout a 1/4" higher than stock. At the highest it's about an inch up and back. The grip is fantastic on them.

She is much more comfortable than stock, and likes them in the highest/futhest back position.  She's 5'5" tall, so having the pegs further up helps to keep her legs in a more comfortable position, and the wider spread gives her more leverage to grip with.

cool. the design looks like there is more for them to grip with there legs than the stock.
I've been lazy about putting mine on and still wanted to get used to the new riding position before taking a passenger.

she's much happier now than before....which makes me less happy, because I have to take her more often.  Although, in turn that makes me more happy, because she's more happy, which means i get pregnant doged at less..

it's an off cycle

Talked to dennisd on the forums here, also a woodcraft 696 rearset owner.

Apparently woodcraft revised the rearsets a few months ago and if you contact them they are willing to provide revised parts to current owners.

As far as the spacers go.

Looking at the rearset, is there a gap behind the rearset between the bracket and the bike?

At the very top of this photo on the back side of the rearset you can see the space. Now the space you see is part of the mount that sticks out of the swingarm pivot and I can assure the rearset is pushed as FAR as possible onto the mount.
Are you referring to the space created by the stepped spacer in front of the main hex bolt?

Looks Identical to mine, only without the rear washer and the stepped spacer woodcraft provided. Cool.

I'm contacting Woodcraft tomorrow to ask about the revisions they made and the necessity of the spacers they gave me but not others.

I sent eric wood an email yesterday asking if there's a functional difference for the change.  I know that the design I have is sometimes a pain to slide on/off the swingarm axle, so it could have been to make that simpler (smoother), but I'm curious to see why the change was made.

Jeff Wood as run his 696 at a few races this season, so they're very much using that bike often, and making parts for it, and revising things based on solid experience.  I know they had a few cool products in the works for it too.  Don't know when they plan to come to market, but last I heard was late winter release at the earliest.

I haven't heard in awhile, and last I did hear, I was asked to keep it hush until they were ready, because they weren't really close to production yet.

We did make a slight change to the kit but not done for safety reasons.   If there is ever a question of safety we would contact each and every customer directly.  We're glad you love the product.  You would not notice while riding the bike but we determined a bushing in the swingarm pivot was not functioning properly.  It  was binding slightly so we did make an improvement.   We can send you the spacers, no charge, to install.   This will allow the suspension to move more freely.
