2007 S2R 800 I need to get new rubber for my front wheel. I have a rear stand but no front. What are my options in suspending the front of the bike so I can remove the front wheel? I thought about hanging it from rafters but that might not be an option due to the shotty craftsmanship in my carport. Can I put blocks under the engine? I don't know how I feel about all that stress on my cases. Thanks.

If you have a ladder that would work. Position front end underneath both legs of ladder. Get some tie downs, hook them up to the bars and raise it up one at a time by small increments. Have the tie downs hooked up so you're pulling down not up. Be careful and good luck

I do have a ladder but I'm not sure if the bike will fit under it. Good tip though. Thanks.

The front end won't weigh more than 200, and given the rear bias on a Monster, it will be less. If your carport roof won't hold 200 lbs, you probably shouldn't park in it.

I put a block of wood under the horizontal cylinder just ahead of the case and lift it with a car jack (while it's on a rearstand).

1: Cut a hole in a box 2: Put your junk in that box 3: Make her open the box And that's the way you do it
oh wait. wrong forum.
1. Go to car for emergency jack. 2. get something level so the jack can reach properly. 3. use the bolts on the exahust manifold of the foward cylinder as a lifting point. 4. Jack.
If you have a wheel choke, choke the rear and just lift it on the header pip where it begins to straigthen out. (if your on a rear wheel stand, then it might end up picking up the rear hence the more foward bias position).

Thanks again guys.
I thought about getting a stand but it's a pain getting things shipped up to Canada and paying all that duty.
I was going to jack up the front cylinder but I'm still leery about putting extra stress on the motor. I'm already on my second set of cases. Although that sounds like it would be the quickest and easiest way of lifting it.
Dan. You're probably right. I think I was just being paranoid. The bike is hanging right now out in the carport. I used 2 ratchet tie down straps and hung the front end by the handle bars.
I'm getting the new rubber put on first thing in the morning.
Then I'm gonna cut a hole in a box.......

I hang it from the rafters in my garage too, using ratcheting tie downs and the rear stand. Only difference is I tie them either from the forks (looping them underneath the top triple), or from the frame, depending on if I want the front end to move or not. I would not trust hanging the bike's weight (half of it) from the handlebar. That puts a lot of weight on those 4 bolts.

I don't know about you guys, but when I remove/replace the front wheel I'm clumsy enough that I imagine I could easily knock over a bike that is supported by a jack under the engine. I've done it once or twice before, but it made me nervous.

Tell me about it. I actually had the (cheapo) carbiner I used to suspend my Triumph ST SSSA and fall and land on the rear brake disc. Somehow the center stand folded up at the same time and I was all alone. Shame I didn't get a video of me reaching for the MC jack with my foot while holding the bike from falling over. Would have been a big hit on YouTube Stay tuned, I'm going to make some bits to fasten the frame to one of these type of scissor jacks:

I was looking at making a solid timber stand to put under the engine to cradle it, Would that be safe to hold the bike up? I want to remove the Forks and the Rear shock and send them off to service at the same time. I do have a rear stand. I'm in a rental property so the roof truss is a no go.
Is it safe to support the full weight of the bike minus tires and suspension from the engine?
I was also thinking supporting some weight from the Frame slider bolt and some from the rear of the engine. good Idea/Bad Idea?
Sorry too thread jack, just interested to get others thoughts on this.
