New boots just came in today. NewEnough has TCX (formerly Oxtars) boots on clearance, and I bought a pair of X-square for $80.

I already have a pair of Oxtars Jupiter boots and I love them! The X-square are somewhat between the Jupiter and regular shoes. They don't have the gore-tex layer (water resistant and breathable) but they're lighter and more comfortable.

Then they came for me--and there was no one left to speak for me.

Nice! They remind me of a pair of (non-riding) boots I used to have. Oh and thanks for pointing them out after they're out of my size.  Wink

Damn, found them for less at sport bike track gear:
X-square $65: http://stores.sportbiketrackgear.com/Detail.bok?no=4527
Jupiter $90: http://stores.sportbiketrackgear.com/Detail.bok?no=4171

Oh well....

Next thing for me will be a 3/4 length jacket. I have mesh jacket for the summer and 1/2 length Tecnik (aka  asphyxia) that I've used until now but I need something better for the cold/wet months.

Right now the candidates are:
  • Scorpion XDR Commander + warm and good fit - does not seem to vent much
  • FirstGear Kilimanjaro + venting looks good - does not seem very warm
  • Tourmaster Epic (warmer) or Transition (better venting)

The Scorpion is the most expensive at $340, then the  Kilimanjaro at  $300 (New Enough has a $40 rebate for it, so it goes  down to  260),  Epic is $215 and the Transition is $185.

I really like the features on the Scorpion: a waterproof and a thermal layer, wraps and straps for a snug fit, neck warmer, etc. But the arm vents seem useless and the chest vents seem worthless so I worry I'll end up feeling like a lobster.

Heh, just bought the Scorpion. After reading the review and the opinions on web bike world I decided to go for it. I'll try it now before it gets too cold and see how much venting I can get out of it, and if it really sucks I will return it in exchange for the Kili.

Hold off until jan... Then we can drag to IMS and pop your cherry there... and damage your credit rating too.

Fixed that. I canNOT be trusted with a NEW new bike. Besides, I don't believe in financing vehicles or buying non-preowned. It kinda makes me sick to see that "drive it off the lot" depreciation. I'd rather spend that on mods.

Did I say anything about a new bike? I did not. But I will mention that Ohlins will have a stall, there's lots of new gear coming to market... plenty of other stuff to get Smiley
