you know, after my first accident, i learned that you can never have enough insurance. my little wreck left me out of work for about 3 months. and it was a light tap. so one of the things my wife demanded was to get some kind of policy incase i go down. so, after a while i found one that i sort of liked and went with it. i kindv'e feel better now. even though i don't want to reck again, (many on this site probably dream of the day when i do), i feel a little more at ease.
so, when i think about the cost of my bike now, i cant help but add in the extra 200 bucks a month i pay for my "just in case" insurance. it makes this hobby a even more expensive endevor.  but i feel its worth it. i just wonder if any of you do too.

200/mo for extra insurance? that seems a bit steep.  We just signed up for AFLAC.  It would have paid me pretty well for my minor get off a few years back, or mags recent (non-moto related) hospitalization.  It's pretty ala carte, and we certainly don't pay 200/mo for *both* of us...

$45/month for pretty steep coverage here. Covers pretty much anything that happens to me, my bike, and even $3000 worth of gear/accessories coverage. Obviously if i'm out of work, things would be diffiicult, but that's what disability is for.

I have motorcycle, health, and life insurance but no disability.  But I get unlimited medical leave at my job.

I hate insurance.   :P ;)

But no, this is a good post, i really don't know what my state farm would cover gearwise and all that.  Mayhaps i should check that out.  Afterall my dad works for them... in claims.  But i can't ask him because he wants to remain "blissfully ignorant" of the danger i'm putting myself in.

doesn't help to argue that he used to have a bike... because he wasn't living in LA.

Time to call my agent.

I have full moto insurance with $5k medical (to supplement the med insurance). I'm thinking about bumping up the med coverage to $25,000 even though I already have med insurance. I'm really surprised at how much increased med coverage costs. I'm sure there would be a lot of out of pocket expenses even with medical insurance. I am chatting with an agent about disability and life as we speak. I'll probably get both.

I have moto insurance with the gecko, liability, and I added collision. Bike's paid for, but it was only an extra $160/year. I have a BCBS plan that covers everything after the first 1200 up to 300,000.

I've thought about AFLAC, or something like it, but never bothered to research the costs. Maybe it's time to do that.

$200/month? Are you talking about life insurance? My husband just took out a life insurance policy for 250/month. He failed the physical though (high blood sugar :'(). They are still giving him insurance. But for the same $250/month his family (me) gets 1/3 what he was supposed to [bang]. I had to cancel the hit-man since he's worth more alive than dead [laugh]. I suppose I should raise my own life insurance since I'm the one on the  [moto].
Is it June yet?

my policy is life and dissability. it would coverme until i was 65 if i got hurt. it would pay my salary plus rate increase due to inflation. it would cover 100% so if i was injured enough to not do my job but i could stil do something else, like say work a desk job or something, i wouldn't have to. i dont know, i happen to be out riding today. i will continue this conversation on monday.

what if you were hurt bad enough to not work anymore? would you still get paid? i think that is why mine is so high. maybe i am paranoid but i do know of someone who had a bad accident and was unable to move for the rest of his life,( only ten years :'(), so, i think that the policy that i have is appropriate. i dont know ???

let it ride Brothers,  [moto]

If you're college student, with no assets to go after and nobody counting on you for support, I can see just getting the bare minimums.

Me? I've got a wife, two kids, a good paying job and a house. I'm not going to risk their livelihood any more than I have to.

Without giving up riding, of course  ;D
I own several motorcycles. I have owned lots of motorcycles. And have bolted and/or modified lots of crap to said motorcycles...

Yeah, I thought about that, but I figure, If I'm not there to enjoy it, what the hell do I care?
