I did a search and couldn't find the answer.  Does anyone on here core mufflers for $$ ?  I expect I could do the work under normal circumstances, but I just had major surgery and there's no way I can do it right now.  I have a 07 S4R and want the stock mufflers cored out.  So, if anyone on here does this please PM me and let me know how much $ and how familiar you are with the mod.  If nobody does it for $, I'll just let it wait until I heal up but I was hoping to have it done while I can't ride.  So, let me know.

Thanks!   waytogo

There is a member on this forum and I know he gets paid to core 696 cans so maybe he does other cans as well.  I'll let him chime in if he wants the business.  It's really not hard to do yourself, but if you are out of commission to do it then I guess ya gota do what ya wana do. chug

I could do it, on the condition that you order the perf tube & packing material. See my thread here http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=35964.0
You would have to measure the OD of the muffler inlet tubing and order the appropriate size perforated Stainless tube, and enough glass packing for both mufflers. I'm still rocking mine after a few thousand miles and they're awesome.

I read through the instructions and it does sound pretty easy.  Right now I can't even go up and down stairs or stand more than a few minutes, so there's no way I can do the work.  I'm focusing on healing so I can try to ride the Duc to VIR, but that's only a week and 1/2 away now.  Ugh...  Anyway, a couple of people have written back so at least I know I can get it done one way or the other!   waytogo

I used to do them, but i am currently unable since i don't have my garage up and running, So heal up and PM any one of us. Also there are two types of coreing, a full ore like bergdoerfer is referring to or a half core, FYI.

The info I've read on full versus 1/2 core is confusing to me.  The instructions I read showed taking out the guts, inserting the perf pipe and having fiberglass insulation surrounding the perf pipe, then closing it up.  Sounds like a glass pack muffler from hot rodding to me.  Is that a full or 1/2 core job?  I'm looking for improved sound and if it comes with more performance that's cool too.  I am also going to get a cat eliminator from monsterparts once the vendor stocks them up again.  Once I have everything in place I'll probably have a buddy ceramic coat it all black too.  Can someone explain the differences in full core and 1/2 core?  (I've searched, but the info I found didn't state the differences very clearly.)

ps  Thanks for helping out a newbie to the Duc world!   waytogo

Half-core: remove the tips and sleeves, then cut the inner steel muffler body back 1-2" from the rear. This opens the muffler up somewhat and makes it sound better, but retains the extremely heavy internal baffling. Exhaust flow is only marginally better than stock. A quick and easy mod requiring only rivets to hold the endcaps on.
Full core: completely remove the heavy steel internal baffle structure, replace with perforated SS tubing and wrap with fiberglass packing. Since the inner steel muffler body is cut all the way back and the internal baffling is removed, weight reduction is five pounds total. Exhaust flow and sonorous tone is on par with that of extremely expensive aftermarket systems.

Hrm, whats the cost estimate for a full core job, and whats the turnaround? If someone thats able to do the job can pm me that would be rad. I will buy a term setup eventually, but that's likely a ways off, so this might be a nice option to tide me over.

Ryanracer has the 696 expertise, these have an internal catalytic converter for each muffler and are therefore a bit of a different animal than previous Monster exhausts.

I've done probably 50 sets of Ducati and Aprilia stock cans including on the 999/749. What a PITA that is!

Shoot me a pm if you're interested. I actually have a set of S4r cans here I could do and then just swap them for your's once complete.

Like another poster mentioned, the perferated tubing and packing material is on you.
