Anyone know of a place that sells tapered head bolts in steel? Easy enough to find Ti ones, but I'd rather not spend $4 or more each, for an M8 bolt.

For reference - this is the sort I'm looking for.

http://www.probolt-australia.com/Products/Stainless_Steel_Bolts_Socket_Cap_Tapered

Or you could throw some ordinary parallel head socket headed cap screws into a lathe, and put a taper on the head.  Easy five minute job.

at that price you might as well go titanium.

lathe would be more expensive unless u had access to it, and you were really that anal about it.

have u tried Fastenal, they usually can get anything for you.

Holy shit. How could I
a) Not know this site existed and
b) Not know these guys are a mile from my house?

Thanks a lot. Now I'm going to be going over every bolt on my bike and seeing what I could change about it.

Fastenal doesn't show that sort on their site and the closest location to me closes at 5 and isn't open weekends - making it pretty impossible for me to get to without taking time off of work.  Angry

The link Suzy gave was in au dollars... But, the price for steel was way higher than bolt depot or the like. High enough that Ti is a better value in the end

I posted the link to pro-bolt because they're the only ones I know of that stock the tapered head bolts.  I wouldn't be in the least surprised if they make them themselves from regular parallel cap head bolts with a lathe, and then polish them up.

Most all the bolts I've swapped on my bike came from McMaster Carr, though they generally sell bolts by the box, and of course only parallel cap head.

Yeah already looked over McMaster and boltdepot. Probolt is just too spendy. The prices on their Steel tapered bolts are about as much Ti ones at a number of different sources I found.

I was just hoping someone might know of a source that had prices more along the lines of what a parallel head of the same size might be

And no lathe here. I wish I had one... But no such luck

Phone it in, it takes 5 minutes and just stop by on the way to work or at lunch to pick them up. If you really didnt have the time, i live around the corner from one, its a 30 second walk and i could throw the order in and have it shipped to you, or just have it show up at yoru local store so you can pick it up on your way to work or lunch or whatever. Its the least I can do for opening your doors last year for that trip that me and my riend Yauhen + Desmolu and El matador did.

Fastenal will sell individuals if you do a custom order too.

I'll give them a call and see what they have. Problem is they don't open until after I'm on my way to the office and closed before I get back from it. But if they have what I'm looking for - then we might have a chat

just PM me if you find out they have what you need. I can always pick them up and ship them to you.

If it comes to that case you might as well order some new bolts for your rotors, maybe something for your kickstand bolt,  or the bolts around your triple tree... etc... Cheesy

haha, its not that they exist, because pro bolt mcmaster, and boltdepot have the same stuff.. its the fact that they are only a mile from your house!

they wont sell invidual bolts at most stores though, only through custom order. just keep that in mind.

speaking from experience:

the pro-bolt tapered stainless bolts are very nice. the quality is impeccable.
the steel is 316 stainless, not your standard crap stainless with weak shear strengths, etc.
they're not light by any means either.
the polish is mirrored, they look awesome.

AND... it will take you at least a week to get them, probably closer to two.

in short... quality = good, delivery = slow.
