Hi All, I just did the Stay Upright COurse at Eastern Creek yesterday. I have been an avid motorsports fan for a couple of decades but have only been riding for 2 years so i thought it would be a great opportunity to develop my skills. First off, The morning session compromised mainly of cone weaves, emergency braking and down shifting whilst underbreaking. It was relatively basic but definetly worth while.

The afternoon session was where all the fun was! We did a few laps around the full circuit and had a instructor following us each individually. Pulling in to pits the feedback we received was great. I was very happy withthe positive feedback i received and didnt really receive anything negative. After that we we had free reign over the track. Slower riders in one group and the quicker (or over confident, myself included) in another. This was definetly the highlight of the day. Being my first time on a bike at a track is something i will remember. The free time saw me pushing myself and after a little scare from the back wheel sliding out slightly at turn one at around 170km i toned it back on the straight, not getting much over 230km so i could ease in to turn one.

For a relatively new rider like myself, the experience was priceless. I would strongly recommend everyone to give me ago. I feel my skills have been sharpened and think i have got over the psychological barriers of doing a track day in the future! (i will be at the next one with bells on!)

I straped a camera to the bike and the result is (sorry about the wind noise):

Yea, definetly need to get some leathers. Got the jacket, so im not sure if im stuck with super expensive Dainesse pants that i have to get so it zips in or if the cheaper Rjays will zip in fine?

Way cool - excellent video.

I can attest that dainese pants most definitely don't interface with teknic jackets.

It's always great to do courses they really help with confidence.
There are many of use here who have done them and keep doing them.
I am a little amazed they let you ride at such speed without being in full leathers though.

Will i need full leathers for track days? Do the jacket and pants need to zip together.

Newbie question..... when your in your group on a track day, can you over take whenever you want or do you have to wait until your on the straights like we did for our course?

Matty: I was hoping they would let us run at our own pace and they did, i too was a little amazed they let us do those sorts of speeds with minimal protection. Some people (not many) only had Jeans (not kevelar), they reluctantly let them ride.

If you read the track thread you'll find lots of info there
But yes you have to have leathers and they have to zip together.
You can hire them at the track if you don't own your own.

The track is free for you to overtake wherever it is safe the track day passing rule is 2 metres for safety. It is usually best to follow someone for a few corners to check them out then find your way past. Unless of course you find your way past as you are quicker than them.

But do read the track thread there is lots of info in there that will be good for you.
