Protect the Stig!

Odd story I found on the BBC. Someone is trying to out the Stig and Top Gear is actually taking measures to stop them.

I don't think the BBC has a leg to stand on with this one. In the 70s, several periodicals wanted a picture of Gene Simmons without his makeup. It was much the same as this issue. KISS handled it well. Someone got a pic of Gene leaving Studio 54 or some disco. It was legitimate, and KISS simply denied that it was him. Mystique intact, problem solved.

Of course this was before they sold out the mystique of kabuki makeup for spandex and green zebra print jumpers.

All just hype, I think the Stig is not on person but a multitude of different people they hire based on availability and insurance requirements, like they did with Schumacher when they had that special Ferrari. Of course with Schumacher they made an exception and 'outed' him; they just couldn't pass up using him in the show.

The Stig is James May. There is a reason they call him Captain Slow, its a cover. Who would ever believe such a thing?

He's dead, and he did have mad skills.  One of my favorite GP drivers of the 70s.
