My stock seat had to face the elements for a few years until I bought a house with a garage in April. As a result the vinyl tore near the tank where it got brittle. I picked up a second seat to ride around on and in the event that I want to ride two up.

But the original seat, that one I'm going to hack into. This is the goal, minus the tail light:

I haven't ripped the seat apart yet to see the stock contours. I know how to build up foam and cover it with vinyl, so no real surprises there.

My fiberglass skills on the other hand could use some work. I am thinking of building the molding form out of rigid foam then coating that with strips of glass. What should I use to release the foam afterwards? Plastic bag? I feel like I'd be able to get the surface smooth as I've done plenty of paint booth work before on metal and wood.

Any tips or tricks are appreciated, and if you have pics of folks that have done similar I'd love to see them.

Yeah, far too much body work, I want to make it absolutely minimal and basically only an ass pad with a small fiberglass butt stop.

I'm having an aluminum one made right now by one of the well know Cafe builders. I sent him my solo cover to use a foot print to build from so my cafe tail will mount the same way as the old cover did. nice to see someone else into the retro cafe style on a Monster!

Did this one in 2006:

I narrowed the stock seat pan where it got wide through the mid-section (made it as straight as possible), then built the seat cowl up and sent it to my upholsterer as the seat pan got braced and went to paint.

Took longer than I thought, but it was a good result I think...

Thanks, were you interested in this? I'm gonna email them for more pics and info.  It's about 250 dollars. That seems a lil steep for me. What do you think?
