My stock seat had to face the elements for a few years until I bought a house with a garage in April. As a result the vinyl tore near the tank where it got brittle. I picked up a second seat to ride around on and in the event that I want to ride two up.
But the original seat, that one I'm going to hack into. This is the goal, minus the tail light:
I haven't ripped the seat apart yet to see the stock contours. I know how to build up foam and cover it with vinyl, so no real surprises there.
My fiberglass skills on the other hand could use some work. I am thinking of building the molding form out of rigid foam then coating that with strips of glass. What should I use to release the foam afterwards? Plastic bag? I feel like I'd be able to get the surface smooth as I've done plenty of paint booth work before on metal and wood.
Any tips or tricks are appreciated, and if you have pics of folks that have done similar I'd love to see them.
