We'll see. It's about time for a knock down drag out fight. Haven't had one of those for a while and it' getting close to the season end.

wholly Molly....I guess Haga getting the news of not having a ride for the Ducati factory next year ( not that I think he would have retained that ride with his performances this year) put a lil somethin something in his shorts afire....and I would have lopved to have seen Guintoli make a go of gettin by Max in race 2...

An incredible feat for Haga to take a lowly Ducati and beat a grid full of prototypes.

true enough, but some look at the frankenstien differences between the race bikes and their homologation on the showroom floor counterparts....and that Ducati is the closest resemblance to what you can drive off the showroom floor....the R1 for example is so far from being that kinship, that it makes it hard...but they are within the rule parameters...so it is fine...the Ape just happened to exploit a bit of the wording that has been changed for next year, so we shall see...

other than the [wsbk legal] gas tank, and the usual race refinements, how is the R1 "so far"?
what does an 1198s cost? what does a japanese liter bike cost? ...maybe from a marketing perspective ducati has chosen to produce street bikes that are a hell of a lot closer to their race versions. the japanese are free to do the same thing.
..what i'm getting at is, despite the year they've had, "lowly ducati" is some nonsense

Checa's been doing that all season (other than Biaggi). And with a privateer bike.
It sucks that Rea's Honda has been so hit-or-miss this year. In preseason, I thought he'd have a go at it with Biaggi this year, but he's so far back that's his late season charge is totally pointless. Where's he going next year? I thought a factory Duc would be good, but it doesn't look that way. He can't stay with Honda if they're going to produce a bike that finicky.
<usual refrain> BTW, since WSBK has been a bit of a disappointment this year when I expected it to be a barnburner every round, I've taken up AMA Daytona Sportbike as my favorite racing to watch. It's make the beast with two backsin' awesome. Pretend like ya don't hate DMG and Speed for a weekend and watch the races. Soooo worth it.

strip the skins or look at the naked stripped and skinless bikes when they post those pictures and see if an R1 looks anything like a naked one you see in a service department....do the same with the Ducati...you tell me...
it isn't just the gas tank, it is electronics and all sorts of trickness that is all over those machines that you will not find elsewhere...but the Duc is alot closer to it's customer counterparts, especially since the gridded privateer bikes are pretty much 1198R's reskinned and repackaged with the spec'd and needed accoutrements for racing.

I have to admit...I have caught a race or 2 in that series...and they are indeed some great races indeed....comparable to WSS as far as passing and not being a yawnfest of a parade.

Let's see if the close racing in AMA produces the world class riders of "tomorrow".
The Beemer is also another bike that follows the "prototype" tag, but since it's so inconsistent no one complains.

that's the point i was making.. ducati made the [marketing] choice to sell a race bike with lights and mirrors. and you pay for it. the japanese sell you the base bike for a lot less and you get to track it out if you so choose.
electronics, duh. those packages cost more than the bikes do.
