Yes, I do.

The fact that,

#1 It is thin, and light weight

#2 Its edge profile = less resistance when cutting through things


 makes it ideal for light duty EDC.

As a bonus, that edge profile makes it easy to hand sharpen.
(Also, being S30V helps a lot.)

(If you can't do this, you wouldn't be allowed to cut fish ...)

These days, you don't have to do this by hand. (There are many devices for this.)

    The reason they say that all the basics of the (Japanese style) knife skill is in here, is because

    1) It teaches (forces) you to move the blade back and forth, not to push it against the material
    2)It teaches (forces) you to close the elbows, not to move the wrist.

When I purchased Naniwa bridge, I didn't buy from Amazon, or any online vendor.
I bought it from local store when they were doing year end sale.

So, I don't feel that bad (about having purchased Naniwa bridge.)
But now, after having used both of them enough,  this is not something I'd spend $85.

Some people know.
Some don't.

Brand new Yanagiba (or any single-beveled Japanese knives, for that matter) DON'T come with the real edge.
So, you HAVE TO put your own edge before using them.

I had the 2nd CO VID-19 vaccine shot Saturday morning, and worked all afternoon / night. Pretty busy, as usual.
Then, the effect kicked in while I was sleeping.
I woke up twice, 5AM and 6AM, before getting out of bed at 7;30AM Sunday morning.
Still felt half sick, did laundry anyway.
Went back to bed for about an hour.

Then, go out, running errands.
 ...

Edit the video and uploaded on Youtube.

Then I collapsed.

When I woke up this morning, the feeling of sickness was completely gone.)

As for Buck110 Folding Hunter...

Is it worth purchasing?
Yes.
Even though it's 1960's design virtually unchanged (therefore, it doesn't have any trendy, high-speed, low-drag, tacti-cool features, such as one-hand opening . closing), it is worth getting one.

And why Buck went from 440C to 420HC?
(Which, on paper, looks like downgrade. But it is NOT.)

No, Buck didn't do it to cut down the material cost, charging the same price, thus increasing profit margin.
They did it because 440C was pretty difficult / time consuming to sharpen.

With 420HC + BOS hear treatment, now 110 is a joy to use AND sharpen, for the end user.

It's all about "actually using a knife in the filed".

Yanagiba mod ! (part one)



This is my first honyaki(white #2), by Masamoto.
(I think I bought this in 2008 or 2009 …)


This knife has been used really hard.

As a result, the shape is getting a little bit off.

(The point is getting too high.
At this stage, the overall length of the blade should be shorter.
The list goes on and on …)

So, I decided to modify the tip, turning this into “Kiritsuke – yanagi”.

Is Buck 110 totally obsolete?

Well, you decide.

This type of auto-deploy sheath is nothing new.
Ted Blocker Holsters used to make this back in the 80s.
It is originally meant to be worn on small of the back, on your belt.
But, it’s too awkward to put the knife back into the sheath.
Also, if you are wearing baggy pants, the tip of the blade
may catch your pants material.

I recently switched my "1st in the morning" coffee, from Death wish Coffee dark roast to Black Rifle Coffee Murdered Out.


The knives are Benchmade Bugout.
One is the basic model, with S30V blade (which I actually like quite a lot).
Another one has M390 blade with aluminum scale handle. (which I really like for what seems like a silly reason.)



So, what's so special about this M390 + Aluminum handle Bugout?

It's the sound !
The sound of blade deployment is so .... pleasing.
I'll probably have to make a video.

Story time...

It was raining hard that day.
I went out to feed the parking meter.
And I dropped my EDC blade, Benchmade Bugout, in the parking lot.
Luckily, my coworker found it.
(I didn't even know I dropped it. That's the "con" of being ultra lightweight. You wouldn't notice when it's gone from your pocket.)


I didn't notice until Saturday morning when I was doing laundry.
It looks like it was run over by a car or truck.
The handle scales have cracked in multiple places.

It still functions "ALMOST" flawlessly.
The blade is still straight, and pretty much perfectly centered.
I'm pretty sure Benchmade will fix it if I send this back, even though "getting run over by car" is NOT the normal situation, so the warranty wouldn't cover it.

I basically have two options.
Send it to Benchmade, have them inspect the blade and pivot, install a set of new handle scales.
Or, I can just purchase aftermarket scales, replace the cracked ones by myself.
