Going to check out a few of the knife brands you've all listed at Cabellas, Bass Pro Shop, REI and whereever else I can find them.
Unfortunately, I can't find any Mantis suppliers in the area?

My favorites are steak and butter. In that order. Brand not important.

Use the CRKT for my billfold - very handy. Less buky than a wallet too. SOG Trident is my favorite though. It is in my pocket at all times. I actually started a knife thread once when I got it and was all excited about knives but I think it was on TOB so unfortunately I can't yell derby and break IZ's balls but you know I would if I could

This one is cooler though FP! I just returned from shopping around. The only one I found today that I would consider buying was the SOG Trident. It had similar lines to the pic in my first post. Not bad price either comparing the two. $65 as opposed to $250-ish. I have to go back to the military surplus store tomorrow and see those CRKT's again too.

CRKT has been buying designs from some of the best custom makers. For a while they were making most of their knives from AUS 6 steel, which is pretty tough and pretty stain resistant, it just didnt take or hold a great edge. I just looked at their website and I see they have pretty much discontinued AUS 6 and have went with AUS 8 and several other better performing steels. I saw a few made from 440A which is again pretty tough and stain resistant, but unless it is perfectly heat treated, its not much of a blade steel. Just keep an eye on the steel the specific knife you are looking at. Buying a great looking knive made from less than desirable blade steel is like running your Duc on cheap tires.

Yeah, Knives made in Taiwan tend to cost less.

Oso Sweet and the Griptillian Statler..is that a Machete?! BTW..if you look at the Mantis homepage, you'll see a video clip of the knives being used by a couple of spokesmodels. There's also a forum/chat with a few new knives being made. One, in particular, is under a thread having to do with AZ. I'm not sure what it's used for but it looks cool! http://www.mantisknives.com/forum/showthread.php/505-The-Bottlenecks-in-the-Arizona-Desert!Mantis also makes mtn bikes too?! The HQ bldg is in Orange County. Think I may have to make a trip there when I visit!

I always liked these on jobsites because blade change was faster. I don't really work as a carpenter anymore, but still wear it. I carry one every day as a tool really, and not for protection. It's razor sharp, super cheap and I use quite often.
