More morons making us all look bad. I am sorry the young man died and my sympathies go to his family... but it was self inflicted. Does saying that make me bad? Like a lot of big cities we have a real problem with this crap. Huge groups on Thursday night bike nights going nuts on the highways. I'm sure every motorist strafed and harrassed by these yahoos gets off the highway and sees me geared up at the next traffic light and figures I'm just "one of them". They have no idea I'm older than their parents. bang head

http://www.wfaa.com/news/crime/Dallas-police-werent-chasing-motorcyclists-before-fatal-crash.html

My wife and I have several friends with the Dallas and Plano police departments. They often say how thankful they are when a bike rider actually pulls over when they light them up instead of running. They run more often than not due to the restrictive chase rules these days and the fact they can't catch a 160mph bike! Sad...

If a Honda= rice burner, then what is a Ducati?

I get passed all the time coming home from work, at the wee hours of the morning, by gangs of jap bikes doing standing wheelies in excess of 90mph.  I have a funny feeling these guys are running drugs too.  For those who know the NYC area, these guys originate from Brooklyn and usually get off the Central Islip/Wyndanch exits on the island.

What brought you to that insight?

Ahh, figured someone would ask.  A NYS Trooper friend of mine has told me that these guys that run in the very early morning have been stopped before at checkpoints and have been arrested with large quantities of drugs on them.  Much to big a score for recreational use.  He said the local Hwy guys set up task forces that target these guys.  They have a technique where the bike carrying the drugs is usually a lead or middle bike while a decoy or two is set up in the rear.  If a single patrol car attempts to stop the group, the trailing bike slows down and takes the hit for the team.  I've noticed that most of the bikers have back packs on.  I know there are bike clubs all over NYC and Long Island but what the hell are they doing running at 3 or 4am on a Monday or Tues.  Kinda fishy, knowing what goes on.

3-4 am, no traffic, road to themselves (so to speak).

I'm sure some guys do take advantage of those conditions.

Whatever the hell they are doing it makes all scooter riders look bad. Stunters at shows is all fine and well but on the open public road it never looks good. My wife worked in felony probation for years and one of her coworkers had some friends that were married and expecting their first child. Well Dad to be decides to go out two nights before his wife is due and hang with his stunting buddies at midnight + on a major Dallas highway. Well he tags a buddy while doing a 100mph wheelie and looses it into the retaining wall. Bingo. Fractured spine and paralyzed from the neck down. Two days before his first child is born. Won't ever be able to hold her in his arms. Not that I would ever in my long life have anything to do with that kind of behavior but don't you think that's often in my wife's mind whenever I go for a ride? He survived the turkey attack, will he survive the next one? I'm pissed that the guy did this and I don't even know the guy!! Angry I wish him well but he didn't do me any favors at my house! Stupid behavior often causes bad results.

Me neither. Just irked something like this again made the local news. The sooner this kind of news dies off the better. Grin

Kinda fishy, knowing what goes on.

well from an objective view point, what they are doing makes sense, one guy takes a simple speeding ticket the others get away and they all split the money evenly.  sort of like how they do with diplomats with decoy limos so you don't know which one is the real one.  got to give them some credit.

then again, running at 3 or 4 am, remember the bars close at 4am in ny so they could be LEGITIMATELY just coming from the bar a bunch of friends.   not saying that drinking and riding is a good idea, that is another thread, but they could be just coming back from a bar the timing would be about right.

and like ohters said there are less people on the road so there is logically more road for them to do stunts on without interuption, this is of course taking into account that they are thinking logically the entire time.

but i agree ILLEGAL stunting does not give motorcyclists a good name.

then again because motorcycles are not CARS most people hate them regardless of if they are folloing the rules or not.

only ignorant and stupid people will blame EVERYONE of a "group" in this case motorcylists based on a few law breakers.

Since I don't see any of the Admins online right now, I'll go ahead and lock this one (for now).

There is a no cop-talk rule here.

I'll leave it up to the Admins if this gets unlocked.

where's the line?

both wheels always on the ground at all times on public roads?

anyone who lifts the back wheel up ever deserves to fall on their nose?

Hell, many cruiser guys think just the pace most of us ride is completely reckless and gives all bikes a bad name.

speed limits for everyone with automatic remote deactivating ECUs !!!
