Hey, Nice Marmot

« on: September 12, 2010, 02:23:07 PM »

Went to a Freestyle Moto event on Saturday called the Red Bull Xray just around the corner from my house. Robbie Maddison puts it on every year and it was free admission. As I said, I was there on the Saturday and there was a bit of a crowd but the wife & I drove past on the Sunday and it was insane! There were people everywhere!

All in all, it was a great day. The riders who do this stuff are unbelievable!

RM worked with some mathematicians to get the numbers right for the Arch de Triumphe stunt. He goosed it a bit much on the down drop and hit the ramp a few feet further down that he had intended and grabbed quite a few G's. He split the webbing between his thumb & fore finger on one hand on that stunt. Shocked

Yeah, I remember his hand puddling up blood from the split and it being bandaged up during the post jump interviews. I'd take that minor injury any day compared to what could have happened. That was some bold shit. I bet his finace was a nervous make the beast with two backsing wreck. Tongue

Those pics are awesome.  It looks like you were in a helicopter taking those shots.  Amazing stuff. applause

I think krolik was right. The hard impact from the down jump tore his hand inside the glove along the web of his hand. Between the thumb and forefinger. I remember the post jump TV interview and he had it wrapped up and told what happened to it. He overshot the landing a bit and landed further down the ramp and harder than expected. He amazingly kept it upright when he hit. That was one hell of a thud! Some luck and a shit load of skill on that hard landing. waytogo bow down

So I wonder who built the suspension for that jump

Surely stock parts wouldn't be up to that task . . .
