A while ago, I mentioned that my S4r was undergoing a bit of a conversion.

Well, we are about to get into the real work of the bike!

Main changes:

1. Carbon Fiber Swingarm installed
2. Turning the Blue/white striped 2004 S4r in to a dark. Frame, motor, tank all painted flat black; wheels painted Ducati Red.
3. Custom exhaust piping (keeping the side by side (think stage coach shotgun) style exhaust and rear suspension to accommodate the motor. All geometry of suspension after conversion will be done by Jason (Dept of Suspension) and Matt Carr.
4. 996 SBK engine cases swapped for the S4r wide cases, motor work done including blueprinted cams, valves, belts, and anything else needed replacing (all motor work done by Matt Carr at Ducati Indianapolis. Matt kicks ass and his parts Manager Travis is the best in the business)
5. Cycle Cat Clip ons and most likely a new top triple (need to PM you Monstermash and ship you my damper and new triple so your guy locally can keep it top mounted. I don't want a side mounted Ohlins)
6. And god knows whatever else I decided to blow money on (new chain obviously, probably new rear sprocket, and some other bits I am sure will be added)

Oh, here it is!!!! Motor Work being done by Matt Carr and Staff at Indianapolis Ducati

I have no idea what is going on in these photos. Motor will be back in Ohio next month and Chris Calovini will begin the paint work, motor install, swingarm, and will have the custom exhaust piping done, along with the suspension mounts.









More to come..................just the beginning phases.

Probably will be the only dark S4r with a carbon swingarm around

Are you modifying the frame to support the swingarm? 

While the engine is apart, get a 1000 crank and install.

Total waste of money, no question about it. But oh well, it will be one of a kind.

I am a huge fan of the flat black darks. I love the way my 99 750 Dark looks and want to turn my S4r into it, with some slight modifications.

Are you modifying the frame to support the swingarm? 

While the engine is apart, get a 1000 crank and install. 

Swingarms mounts off the engine.......that is why the 996 SBK cases had to be installed because the standard S4r cases are too wide to accommodate the Carbon SSS.

Frame only needs to be modded for the suspension, I believe.

I am not doing the work.....so I am sure someone else can chime in with a better answer.

The motor is about done. Wasn't really going to get crazy with it, just blueprinted cams, replace any gasket, seals, etc. that needs replaced, and back on the bike.

SBK engines are narrower but swingarms are supported by frame and engine. 

Dymag didn't design the swingarm to be non supported so be careful.

The guy doing the fabrication on key components builds titanium hot rod frames for a living, so the build is in good hands.

After everything is done, the geometry will be measured by some suspension experts to make sure it is all proper.

From my understanding Dymag only made about 25 of them.

Most were for race bikes, very few production ones.


There was some chatter on the net a while back about how these are unsafe as a guy at the track had a bad crash with one as it came apart.

Well, if you look in the "hub" there is a silver ring in there. No idea what it is. Anyway, the race version didn't have this piece in there for some reason. Again, no idea why.

So this moron essentially pryed out that metal hub ring (probably using the wrong words) to fit a race bike or something.

Well..........not a great idea and the thing disinetegrated.

CF Swingarm came from Chris@cyclecat as Alfred gave it to him and I bought it from him for a make the beast with two backsing steal. I think I paid less than a Termi CF Exhaust system for a new bike.

I have my existing SwingArm and my wide body S4r cases that I will be selling. I am not turning this into a peddling thread to sell parts, but PM me if you are interested with a price and I will guarantee you get the part when it becomes available. I stick to my word on that.

another dymag swinger was for sale recently.  3500 with metal ring.  Race version was/is lighter. 

Did yours come with matching chain protector and guard?

I think cyrus missed the point here.  Monster frames don't extend to the swing arm pivot, sbk frames do.  The sbk swingarms are sandwiched between the frame and the case where monster swingarms are just bolted through the case.  I don't know if that would be a problem with the dymag or not since is was intended to be used on an sbk.
