Cool find!

I found an old petrol compressor on someone's verge out for collection. I can't find any badges on it but it looks like it could be a Briggs and Stratton Engine. It looks like mostly surface rust, the engine turns and it looks clean in the places that matter. Can't wait to get it running!
PS I intend to thoroughly check the tank before I pressurize it at all.
Check it out!

I like the horizontal compressor cylinder. Never seen one like that before.

This thing has obviously been stored outside for aaages. Apart from sand, sticks, leaves, nuts etc in all the crevasses, when I took the head off, there was sand in the cylinder and all around the valves. When I turned the engine by hand and the exhaust valve opened, rusty water trapped inside the muffler poured out. Pretty classic.
Once I cleaned it out a bit it looked pretty good. The hard bit is going to be getting the muffler off, It's rusted on tight as!

Hard to tell from that picture, but it looks kinda like a 1930's Briggs model B engine I had a few years back.

Turns out it's a Clinton 498 from the mid 60s.
Cokey, it compresses air to use for air tools, pumping up tyres, spray painting etc.
