Hints? What's to come?
Nothing that you'll see. The forum will look like it does right now.
We're migrating to a new, much more powerful server at a new host.
There should be a noticeable improvement in forum speed at busy times, and the elimination of the annoying error messages that SMF can't communicate with the database.
I couldn't post tonight between 5 and 6:30.
We'll also be running our own mail server so notification mails shouldn't be blocked as spam. That has been a real problem in Australia. That one is tough because ISPs have somewhat strange criteria for what is spam. Some will block a server just based on configuration. At least now as the mail server owner we can contact them and explain what is what and maybe get on a whitelist. Our mail was previously handled by relay servers owned by our host and the level of service from them made me want to murder someone.
All you guys should tip your hats to darylbowden. He has worked tirelessly on our server since the beginning, whether he was active as a member here or not, and frankly we'd be effed without him.
I'm not sure if people understand the work that goes on behind the scenes, but I can assure you lots of hours are spent keeping our little corner of the web chugging along.
