Seat Question

All right kids...let's hear it from those riders that have purchased aftermarket seats.  I am considering replacing my 06 stocker and looking at the three main offerings:

Sargent- vinyl surfaces, storage cylinder, hooks, approx $430

Corbin- leather seat, no storage,  approx $430

DP Gel-  cheapest ($250...if you can find one), one color, hotass issue.

I am looking for comfort, and a more positive fore-aft position (stock wants to slide me forward).

FYI:

I don't think the newer seat has the hot ass gel anymore.

I bought my bike with a corbin seat and the previous owner had the original one as well.  I rode for a couple of years on the corbin and was underwhelmed by the comfort.  After two years I decided I wanted to try the stock seat just to compare and found out that I didn't find the Corbin seat ANY more comfortable than the stock seat (granted I've never heard anyone else share this opinion, maybe my ass is weird).  I now ride with the stock seat simply because its in better shape than the corbin which has some damaged leather.  The only thing I can think of that the Corbin did better than stock was it didn't push me forward in the saddle, which is nice, but not $430 nice IMO. 

That said, I'm pretty sure everyone else likes Corbin for the most part.  I've even been to their factory and if you can go there, then it would probably be worth it as they will cut the seat to your particular ass-comfort specifications.

I've ridden a Sargent for a short while.
Slightly taller, and flatter.
Better foam than stock.

Corbins are heavier.

As to which is most comfortable, depends on what your azz likes.

First Monster I bought came with a Corbin.

It felt like I was sitting on a piece of wood.


Second Monster I bought had a stock seat on it.

Much better than the Corbin IMO.

I replaced that with a Sargent and loved it.  Much more comfy than the stocker.


My Hyper came with a Corbin and the stock seat.

The Corbin for the Hyper is infinitely more comfortable than the one for my old Monster was.

I guess their seats really vary from one model to another.

20,000 km + on a corbin and I hated it....... a total brick

20,000 km + on a sargent...........much more comfortable and lighter, with underseat storage, but useless for a passenger

no experience with a dp comfort seat.

The old gel seat is very comfy. It does get hot as hell in the sun. Only heard good things for the Sargent, but it's not short people friendly. Only heard that Corbin's are hard as rocks.

i don't have much experience, but i bought a monster with a sargent on their and they gave me the stock seat as well (03 monster 800).

the stock seat lets me flat foot the bike, the sargent is a little bit taller and my ability to touch the ground is comprimised a little bit, i'm now on the balls of my feet only.

for longer rides i prefer the sargent, just because i'm not sliding forward into the tank.  for shorter rides i prefer the stocker for better ground clearance, but still the comfort of the sargent is better. 

I've heard i can actually send the seat back with specifications and they'll custom fit the foam to my needs, but i don't really want to go through the hassle.

My bike came with a Sargent seat.  Beautifully crafted, nice materials and the foam is pretty comfortable.  The fit alignment was right on.  I love the yellow piping that matches the tank.  The one thing I didn't like about it was that its wide.  My skinny ass just doesn't fit the seat well and the sides of the seat stick past the side covers.  I'll post some pics tomorrow.  Because I'm such a pain in the ass about how I want my bike set up, I ended up finding a stock seat for my M750 and realized that it fit me better.  With the stock seat, you actually sit on it as opposed to sitting in the Sargent seat.  So, I ended up contacting Sargent and finding out that they sell a new cover for the stock seat.  I ordered a new cover with the Ducati yellow piping.  I shipped the seat to Sargent and had them re cover it.  It was only another $60 for them to reupholster it.  I was going to do it myself but by the time I found an upholstery gun and stainless staples, I was better off just having the pros do it. 
As I was typing this, my wife just called me at work here and told me that UPS just dropped of the seat so I will snap some shots of it when I get home tonight.

Got the new Sargent seat.  Much better fit for me.  Notice the pics of the stock, reupholstered seat, compared to the seat you buy directly from Sargent.

Seat looks great Speedknot!!!

I'm leaning towards buying the DP seat, feel how that works, then maybe have Sargent recover it with their materials.  The DP seat is just a tad too gray for me.

Is this seat gray, or does it just photograph that way because of the texture?

Thanks for the compliment.  It almost looks like a two tone grey.

I've seen it live. It's nowhere as grey as the picture. If you call a stock seat 10 and the picture 0 - I'd say it's an 8 or 9.
As mentioned above, no longer a gel seat - it felt like a stock seat, but with different upholstery texture.

This seats main feature seems to be the lesser slide-forward-angle.
