i was wondering what are my options?

is it OK to run the 696 ecu with the 796 ones?

no it won't fit,

BUT i bet a lot fo people running no-termi's would be interested in buying it. as long as it's priced less than the current reflash solutions.

It wont fit  Huh? ??  I'm pretty sure it will fit  waytogo.

It just wont work.  Very much.  At all  boo.
Hell, maybe I'm wrong... it might do something.... but I doubt any good would come of it popcorn.

It would be interesting to know if it could be reflashed as an M796 ECU though.......   If it were mine, I'd be investigating that possibility....

For the sake of boredom and killing some time before work, I'll make a prediction:

Assuming that the 796 doesn't reject the 696 ECU like a liver transplant from an alcoholic, the mapping would (in my guestimation) make the 796 run decisively lean.  The fueling map for the 696 (DP or not) would be telling the injectors to fire at a rate which aims for a 14.7 (or other) AFR based on a smaller cylinder size than the 796 engine.  Because the displacement is different, the injectors wouldn't be firing enough fuel into the cylinder vs the air being sucked in.  The O2 sensors MIGHT correct the fueling map enough to reach the desired AFRs but that depends on programmed tolerances -- which at the moment we have not been able to view the ECU programming.  And even if they did, they would only do so in closed loop; when you get to open loop you're talking serious damage potential.  So... dangerous at best even if it takes it.

The ecu's are physically different between the 2 as far as I have seen in pictures, so not sure if it would even plug in.

please do not put the wrong ecu in a bike.

sell that sucka on eBay. lots of folks are interested in a genuine DP ecu over a reflashed one.
