Honda's Dani Pedrosa crashed just a few minutes into the session and broke his left collarbone. With three races in three weekends and still a mathematical yet distant chance at the world title, Pedrosa's crash comes at a very bad time in the season.
Pedrosa's injury is described as "multiple fractures" of the collarbone, exacerbating a quick recovery.
Spies and Hayden suffered small crashes in the session with Spies landing hard on his elbow and Hayden binning after suffering a mechanical issue.
