I think it's only because we are perceived to be just having " fun " vs heavy Trucks, Semis , School Buses, Lawn Mowers, Chain Saws, Leaf Blowers ,etc. are seen as necessary to our every day existence.

Motorcycles don't in most people's minds contribute to the betterment of Society like these other things I mentioned.

We ( motorcycles ) are dispensable.

As far as exhaust labeling goes, you folks in CA have two years to fight this law.  Read the EPA regulation.  In short, the label has to be permanently affixed, in contrasting colors and easily visible.  This has never been enforced by the EPA or adhered to by the manufacturers.  Under heat shields, hidden by luggage and requiring the rear wheel to be removed (late model CBRs) to see the label certainly do not meet the regulation.  The other is the label is required to be on the motorcycle for 1 year or 3,700 miles, not the life of the motorcycle.  Get to work!

In reality, I guess that depends on how a court would interpret "permanently affixed" since embossed, though permanent is not affixed.  Input from lawyers?  Statler?  Ducatiz?

The only thing I'm not fully understanding is the whole 2013 thing.

Does it just mean that all aftermarket exhausts, from 2013 on, have to meet the EPA standards? And what about exhausts prior to that year?

if I understand correctly it only applies to bikes and aftermarket pipes purchased after 2013.  A bike or exhaust purchases prior to 2013 is exempt.

Take a look at that rep's district and you might see why this prejudicial law was created.

I'm wondering if some kind of legal challenge can be started on the grounds of discrimination.

I'm wondering if some kind of legal challenge can be started on the grounds of discrimination.

Two much more dranconian bills were defeated in NYC based on exhaust labeling based on the points I brought out.  http://nycmag.org/page22/page14/page14.html  http://nycmag.org/page16/page17/page17.html  Of course, your labeling issue is different since it is not retroactive, but the other labeling issues exist unless manufacturers do comply with them and, IMO, the 1 year 3,700 miles will still apply unless the EPA changes the regulation.  Keep in mind I am not a lawyer, therefore not an expert.  Since California is a, if not the major motorcycle market in the US you may be able to get the manufacturers involved.

Oh, forgot to answer your question.  I don't think so.
