actually i think they are in line with the upper frame rail not the tank.
Even better, more room to work with. You wouldn't need to worry about the controls hitting the tank.

keep in mind vibration is going to go up at your hands. the bars are mounted with rubber on the top tripple (mine was) clipons far more rigid mount on the forks.
people say that bar end weights will help, really they dont.
i would suggest some adjustability via clipons with some rise to them.
good luck.
those suburban machinery bars might be an option for you.

Favorite convo i read on this board
"PICS OR IT DIDNT HAPPEN"
"F**K U IT HAPPENED"
Suzuki Blvd M109R " Sliver " = assassinated by cager
PW 696 " Pearl " = traded in
M1100 " Loki " = Viking God of mischief ( Goddess in this case )
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in a pretty pristine body, but rather to come in sliding sideways all used up screaming F*CK YEAH WHAT A RDIE!!

maybe it's me, but I feel less vibration and my hands go numb less with the clip ons.
bu i have zero rise, so maybe that's the issue. no room for a vibration to build.
