sinister would translate in Italian to sinistro.  I'll take that.

I heard that the production versions are going to have a belt final drive.

The Ducati Sinistro...otherwise known as the Ducati "Left".

that doesn't strike much fear into me...

Sinistro is from the latin, which does mean sinister, but more commonly, sinistro means the direction left.

I guess it could have a spin-off version called the destra?

Diestra - Right

Siniestra - Left

You should know this dude, I thought you went to catholic school in Vzla.

Siniestra always meant left and only became the common sinister  because left handed people were considered wicked.  Smiley

http://dictionary.reverso.net/italian-english/sinistro

sinistro and sinistra, both have same meaning, just different uses and gender.

likewise, destro and destra.

Either word sounds decent enough, but the translated names aren't exactly identical to the meaning you want to convey 100%.

my family is from sicily/italy as well....and Sicilian is not always the same language....Also, words tend to have many meanings, in almost any language, however sometimes we forget some of the meanings.

If you've never heard sinistro used as left, how do you say left?

You know what, doesn't matter the name sucks and that's my point.

And although I'm using an Italian/Latin word I was thinking of it in Spanish which is my primary language.  in conclusion the literal translation is often used incorrectly and application for many reasons.

1. threatening or portending evil, harm, or trouble; ominous: a sinister remark.

2. bad, evil, base, or wicked; fell: his sinister purposes.

3. unfortunate; disastrous; unfavorable: a sinister accident.

4. of or on the left side; left.

You know what's funny? The Spanish word "esposas" translates to "wifes" and "handcuffs". Go figure.
