If a Honda= rice burner, then what is a Ducati?

Whats the deal with the elephant insignia on the timing belt cover?  If no one knows what it is, I'll post pics tomorrow.

When Cagiva owned Ducati they put the elephant here, there, and everywhere.

I've heard the head of Cagiva thought it was lucky. I don't remember all that well the whole story...

Edit: They didn't just put it on the Ducatis because it was "lucky." It's the Cagiva logo. Or was. I guess it's a more stylized elephant now...

I've got an older fuel filler base with the ele on it. They pop up in a few spots on older parts

Thanks guys.  I didn't quite see the connection between OEM Ducati parts and the elephant.  It's all crystal clear now.
