Rob,

I would change the locks on your garage if i was you.......first, the "combine harvester" had to be sold to free up funds for the extension........next in line it seems is the beloved Monster. Firstly, go and check now to see if the Matrix is still out back, if it is, then guard it with your life. I can see it funding a world trip if your not carefull....! Shocked  Shocked  Shocked

I must say there doesn't look like there is much left of the trellis frame, looks more plastic in there - they should of tried to keep it a bit more naked, but I guess when you have a water cooled motor that's when things get complicated!  laughingdp

ok two odd things about that video;

1. I am sure it says "RIDING MODE" on the display on the tank - what else would you be doing??
before you jump down my throat it probably has something to do with traction control or such

2. the horrendous amount of lean to get it go around the corner! not very Ducati like!

Are you trying to sound like those Ducati snobs you were complaining about the other week? Wink

Ducati will tell you the real question should be ... if you wanted a v-rod, why the hell wouldn't you buy a Diavel? I have no idea about these things but it is probably a better bike all round.

If you are talking about embarrassments to the brand that may actually cause harm to Ducati (other than increasing their sales into a new market) ... it would be things like pulling out of WSBK Shocked Rossi underperforming Cool or only making Monsters with a wet clutch boo ... all of which are on the cards for next year.

But is it really required? Remember this is a video to sell things like it having the greatest lean angle of any power cruiser ... so their staff rider probably needs to show it off.

But if you are right ... making a more powerful bike that is harder to turn than their opposition could very well be disastrous.

Speaking of embarrassments, this article:

http://www.wired.com/autopia/2010/11/ducati-builds-a-devil-of-a-v-max/

... has this quote:

Quote
Ducati says the system offers braking performance superior to its superbikes

bang head boo ... that counts as a big oops

I think part of the Diavel argument here that we may be forgetting is that a little while ago Harley and Ducati were to do some sort of share merger thing that fell through.  Ducati was relying on this to help further forge in to the American market.  I read somewhere that 75% of Harley owners had a Ducati as their "other" bike.  So why not build a cruiser and try to further break in to that market?

Ducati will tell you the real question should be ... if you wanted a v-rod, why the hell wouldn't you buy a Diavel? I have no idea about these things but it is probably a better bike all round.

it is a funny question betty, and not in har har funny.  I think Harley have struggled a little with the v-rod as it had all modern stuff ie overhead cams, belt driven, Porsche designed motor.  Whereas Ducati have kept the build in house so to speak.  I myself if forced to buy a cruiser would go the Ducati for sound if anything.  I loathe the Harley sound, and the Japanese cruisers whilst have power and some styling also sound awful.
oh yeah Monster without dry clutch? I say NO!  waytogo cheeky

no! i'm definitely not trying to sound like the ducati snobs i was complaining about! but i probably am.........
I guess it's immature of me but just like losing interest in a band i've loyally supported until everyone else has caught on how great they are, i'm not too keen on seeing ducati turning into an italian honda by trying to be something for everyone. Ducati has a proud and long racing heritage, the marque has been supported by fanatical devotees, especially here in oz for some reason, since the brand was first imported, and time and time again they have been reminded that ducati fans want sport bikes. They may lure the odd GS rider with a multi, or a V-rod fan for a diavel, but by and large, these deviations from their core fan base will usually spell dissapointment for the company in sales numbers and the owners with overpriced servicing and poor customer support compared to the traditional choice they dared turn their back on.
As for pulling out of WSB with a factory team? that is sacrilige in my book, and i hope rossi does well on the GP bike but he's in a win/win situation now, if he does well it's him, if he fails it's the bike. But really, it's his retirement plan, a year or two with ducati and he'll be the face of the company like ago is with MV, even after decades..........

Hey........they are calling this a cruiser....right...?    My idea of a cruiser is being able to throw a passenger on the back and "cruise"..........that is why i opted for a "combine harvester".........at first i was excited when i heard about this bike.....that is,.....till i saw absolutely NIL in passenger area.....so i am now deflated..... bugga.......means i have to keep polishing chrome Rob.......dam, golly gosh........ Embarrassed    Cry    boo

the marque has been supported by fanatical devotees, especially here in oz for some reason

This has never really done us any favours with them from what I've been told. The big volume is surely the US and it would seem they don't have the same history.

I think the bigger part of the thinking is that so many garages reportedly have both a HD and a Ducati ... in a way I think they are testing the waters for the reasons why. Dare I say (especially without the history/loyalty mentioned above), that it is a choice made on the perception of 'best of breed'. Whatever the reason, it will be interesting to see what happens.

As for pulling out of WSB with a factory team? that is sacrilige in my book, and i hope rossi does well on the GP bike but he's in a win/win situation now, if he does well it's him, if he fails it's the bike. Honestly, what I really want to happen is for Hayden to consistently outperform Rossi Evil

C'mon Brian you know better than that ... this is Ducati remember. I am sure the accessories catalogue (I almost typed DP catalogue) will be brimming with functional options to improve your cruising experience ... it will probably even be done in a way to involve your 'pillion' allowing them to take some ownership of the process.

that will never happen - Hayden is like the parallel 500 Ducati made - should be forgotten.....

As for the ability to carry another person I am split on this decision.  Lot of guys that have HD's are of the 'lone wolf' variety.  If they happen to have a pillion it is usually of the 'overnight' variety and they usually sit on the tiny cushion on the rear guard and wrap their legs around the rider! laughingdp

Maybe an option on the Diavel S??  cheeky
