Board is slow or doesn't load...

I've had this problem for 2+ weeks now. Pages usually load pretty much instantly for me except between the hours of 6-ish PM and 11-ish PM eastern time. It takes several minutes to load a page or it just times out, saying that the server isn't responding. Never had this problem before. I don't think it's me, as this is the only site I visit regularly that does this.

I have no problems at those hours...haven't had any problems at all.

Is it just the forum that loads slowly or do other pages also?

Is someone else in the house using another computer on the same bandwidth via a wireless router?

There is another computer that's being used during that time period, but that's always been the case. The other computer is new, was replaced about a month ago. I thought that might be related, but the DMF is the only site that gives me trouble.

Both computers are hard-wired to a Netgear rangemax wireless router, and the wireless antenna is turned off.

I'll add it to the list of things for Daryl to check.

I do have to say you have been the first to complain about load speeds. On the old server that would happen to me constantly.

The new server is in a different state. Try doing a speed test to the LA area and let me know what you get compared to other areas. My ISP performs differently to different areas of the country.

Just for shits, I unhooked the other computer from the router, and it made no difference at all. DMF pages took anywhere from 45 to 90 secs to load.

I feel bad complaining about it, but it's gotten so bad in the last week that I haven't been able to surf the DMF at all in the evenings.

Here's a speed test to LA:

Here's a few local:

Can't solve your problem but maybe this will make you feel better...every site is like that for us. :P

Have you logged out and cleared cookies since the server migration?

It might be worth a try. Also if you're using a bookmark delete it and set up a new one.

If it doesn't help we'll look deeper into it although it makes no sense, to me anyway.

I tried what you suggested above Sat AM. Everything seemed back to normal until about 8-9 PM. Then DMF pages started freezing again. Have to refresh 3-4 times to get the whole page to load, otherwise, it would just load the header, and maybe the first paragraph of the BOMB, no pics. It's working completely normal at the moment.

BTW, I'm using Safari, if that makes any difference.

It shouldn't make a difference.

Have you ever tried a different browser?

The fact that it's time sensitive is really making me think it's an ISP thing.

I was on last night at those times and if I blinked I'd miss the page load.

Are you on a mac or a PC?

If you're on a PC open up a command prompt and do the following

tracert www.ducatimonsterforum.org

That'll trace the route from you to our servers. Post the results up here and I'll take a look.

If you're on a Mac, the steps are similar

http://support.verio.com/documents/view_article.cfm?doc_id=3693
(Just do traceroute www.ducatimonsterforum.org)

Results should look pretty similar, regardless of whether it's a Mac or PC, and the link above has good description of how to read them.

What John said...

it should be apparent where the bottleneck is as that command will give you the time at each hop.

Sorry I haven't replied sooner. I've not been able to get on the DMF at all in the evenings anymore. It just times out everytime I try. FWIW, it does the same thing when I use the other computer in the house as well. I've been trying for 3 hours straight to get on, and I can't get past the index page without timing out. I did the traceroute thing, here's my results:

Looks to me it's an in house thing at comcast.

This site is always so slow for me that I usually get tired of waiting for the first page to load and then go somewhere else. This is the only site I go to that is slow (20+ seconds to load a page slow). I decided to see if there were others with this problem and found this thread.

You can speed things up (I think) by loading the "Forum" page instead of the "Home" page first.
