Woodcraft Clip ons with stock 696 top triple clamp?
«

Hey everyone, I'd like to know if it's possible to use the Woodcraft 50mm clip ons with the stock 696 triple? Is there enough room to fit it under the stock triple, or would I need to replace it with something like a SpeedyMoto triple?

This might be helpful

A new top triple is not absolutely necessary. The SM top triple you mentioned is not as thick as the factory one and as a result if the stock is used your clipons will mount just slightly lower.
On the other hand your headlight and dash can use the stock mounting points on the stock triple and as a result the whole install will be much more simple. Not having to remove the triple makes installing clipons a 30 minute job.
The stock triple will used with clipons will have the headlight/gauge pod mounted a bit higher and may not be as aesthetically pleasing when clipons are installed.
My opinion? if you want to have the clipons and have them as cheap and as simple as possible just keep the stock triple. If you want all the sexyness of the SM top triple along with the more difficult installation and added cost go for it, I did and am extremely pleased with the final result.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, I read your post while doing the research. That's why I was leaning toward the SM triple. I'll practice with the stock, then move up to the SM. Thanks again.

Dunno if you already bought your clipons or not... but there's this option designed to bolt onto the stock top triple >>

Here you go.
Woodcraft clip-ons with medium (2") rise. Pretty simple to do. The only thing I had a problem with was stuffing all the cables back.
BTW: The turn radius sucks, but no problems with U turns. You'll be lucky to get 20-25 degrees. But totally worth it

where is it hitting on full lock?
depending on the contact point, you could lower it you clip ons.
my zero rise actually come all the way down the the frame below the tank panels, so I have more lock to lock

...and my 3.5" rise (Swatts, but Woodcraft make a taller rise too) has the bars sneaking into the tank's air intake recesses, losing almost no steering lock.

I've tried to lower them, but the headlights were in the way. I also wanted the bars a bit more forward, but this was as far as it would go. I'd love to see those headlight re-locator. That would solve all my problems.
I don't know if it was just me, or does the bars that came with the kit a bit small. I had to really struggled to get my bar end mirrors to fit.

I'll post them as soon as I get a chance. Like I said, you shouldn't have any problems with turns. I really interested in those(or something similar) headlight relocator as well.

well you actually need the spacers for the coffin masters that's why the bars seem small. then you can push your controls in further to make room for the mirrors.
BTW the spacer from Desmoworld would solve the lowering and forward rotation issues.
Chris is an excellent sponsor and regular on the site when he isn't swamped with work. He speaks good english so email him.

Actually I don't have any problems with fitting the controls. It's the inside diameter of the bars. My mirrors fits directly inside the bars itself. With the stock handle bar, my mirrors slipped right in. No biggy, problem solved.

I'd definitely look into the spacer from Demosworld (or something similar, check out the shipping cost to the US, it's more than the part). It would certainly make the installation and fit better.
Good luck and keep us posted.

What i mean is your coffin masters stop you from moving the controls further inboard on the bars, thereby limiting both the position of your barend mirrors and apparently from your photos, your turning radius.
there are spacers for them that allow the reserviors to fit over the black part of your clipons

did you paint your headlight part (for loss of a better name) black? or did you powder coat it?
