There are many plastics. Since the new Monster tank is hidden by the skins it is not made of the same paintable nylon and may not have the same problem, like the, oh, about 15 year old plastic gas can in my garage.

i thought the new 1098/848 all had metal tanks on them?
but we should be seeing if the 696 early models start to have plastic expanding tanks soon its almost been 2 years so far.

The 848 definitely has a plastic tank. Not sure about the 1198s.

Again confirmed. New Monsters are also experiencing the expanded tank issues.

who on this forum had this issue (besides that one guy who had the damage near the fuel pump)? I have not heard of any 696/796/1100/1100S owner state they experienced an expanded tank.
Also, do those who let their bikes sit for a long time experience it more than those who daily ride their bikes? I assume if you're constantly filling up, (say, once a week), wouldn't that keep the water from separating from the fuel?
edit: had to fix major spelling issues.

Ducati made a 697?!
I take it that's the Hypermotard 697?
I have an 2010 1100. I use it as a daily commuter and constantly fill it up. No issues with the tank.

I would normally say to read the sticky thread on the expansion but it's like 60 pages deep. Some of us remember of a person on a 696 that could not put on the panels after the tank expanded. If you use your bike as a daily driver then you would probably not see the issue. If it sits for more than a few days, you can buy an additive similar to Star tron, which is used for marine engines. For further preventative measures, use the Caswell coating. At least read the first post on the thread for the most updated info.

I thought Tizz had said the skinned tanks are a different material less likely to deform (just like Howie said above).

Yes, it was a special edition. Only two made. I have one for sale. First 100 persons who live near you get one free!

Ahh, thanks... I'll look for more info. I've read most of the sticky but not all of it. I hope its not as common as older monsters.

not as bad as I thought it was gonna be. Only problem is, they used "Diavel" style exhaust. Me no likey. On a positive note, it gets rid of the Mid-pipe under the seat, which tends to roast the chestnuts at times.
