I still don't get baseball.  I mean, I'm happy for the home team and all.  And folks seem geuinely moved and excited with the championship.  But since baseball is teh suck, I'm beginning to suspect it's cuz they're all completely daft.  And not a "hey, craziness is HAWT, what are you doin' later" kinda daftness.  More like a "I suffer from head trauma and eat glue" kinda daft.

That said, I approve of hating the Yankess.  Only cuz it annoys the hell outta Yankees fan, who take this shit way too seriously.  I don't feel the same way about the Red Sox.  We should all pity those guys -- I mean, those poor folks have to live with other Bostonians.  cheeky

Baseball is the perfect game, Spidey. It combines strategy, tactics, athleticism and crazy luck. Add to that centuries of tradition, and you got yourself a real pastime. The rewards to those in-the-know fans are huge, and the cost to become one of the in-the-know is low - just some time watching the game and discussing it over beers and hot dogs with someone in the know. Heck, you can even just listen to the tv/radio announcers, and you will catch on pretty quickly.

My wife and I bought season tickets to the Giants when we moved here because we knew almost no one in the city, and we figured it would be a fun thing to do with our then 18 month-old daughter. What really cemented our love for the team was watching almost every game of the 2006 season while caring for our new baby. The pace of televised baseball is perfect for dealing with the needs of 0-4 month old baby.

I have been lucky enough to witness  my favorite football team play and win a Superbowl and to witness my favorite rider win a MotoGP event, and those events were truly awesome. I went to Game 2, and it blew those events away. And, so far I have never witnessed or felt the pure joy like I saw and felt in North Beach on Monday night.

That's a good point...reflecting on the things I got to see in person this year:
1) Laguna Seca GP
2) Misano GP
3) World Series Game 2

Pretty cool, really. We live in a great place.

So does my favorite sport: Handing out meth and handguns at the junior chess league.

This article sums up baseball for me.  3-4 hour game with 14 minutes of anything going on.

I did watch a couple of the series games in my neighborhood bar and had loads of fun.  But I don't need much of an excuse to go out drinking.   drink

I don't get all the griping about watching baseball.  If you don't like it, don't watch it.  There's lots of stuff that I don't like on TV and you don't see me posting up about it.   I despise basketball and I've yet to post up about that.  Not even once.  Haven't even had the desire to post up about how much I hate watching basketball.

You shaddup.  Airtime is a valuable and rare commidity.   I only have 386 channels, and every bit of TV time that is taken up by the suxor beisball is bandwidth that Comcast is not devoting to prOn.  It's the same reason I hate basketball.  And golf.  Actually, I hate pretty much anything on TV other than motorcycle racing, bass fishing, Jersey Shore and prOn.

Oh, and DWTS, American Idol and Glee.  And Project Runway.  And anything on Logo.

Just to make the derailment of this thread complete...I'm thinking of black duct tape on mine.  How does yours hold up in weather?

Really, really poorly.  Duct tape would probably be fine though.  I dunno if you remember lookin' at the helmet, but the disco effect is from a whole bunch little pieces of sticky vinyl (or something like that).  After a while, the ends of each little piece lift up and they flap in the wind. I need to get a clear coat or expoxy or something over it.

My pink duct tape helmet held up for like 5 years.

OK, without asking why it was pink...you really had a duct-taped helmet?  Because I'm serious about trying this.  I don't want to waste my time if it's going to come apart after three months of riding in the rain.
