Awesome concept, but would it be competitive in any race classes? I don't know about other clubs, but the club at Miller allows big air-cooled twins in the lightweight class, and there's at least one guy running a 324lb, 100+hp F042. I was also under the impression that there are Bimota DB7s racing in CCS lightweight twins.

here in the cra it would race ultralight against m620's and unlimited singles. and it would be a choice tool since even regular 450f's destroy everything else in the class. however it takes relialibity to win a championship. As i displayed by winning 3 out of 4 UL classes on my 620 this year. will that ever happen again; doubt it except for the ss class'. I think with wera it would race sv's like in ccs but without the bigger aircooled bikes? lets be serous; motards are faster better handling bikes than most lw and under bikes on the grid. i can back this up because i race supermoto as well and have a 450f. a motard is a better bike because it weighs 100+ lbs less than most track bikes and costs a fraction. the 450's are getting more and more reliable by the year. my yamaha had over 20 track days and race days on it and the valves were perfect at the end of the season. hands down best race bike i've ever owned.

Something like full top end rebuilds every 4-5 k. Shit, If I was willing to do that I'd just try to get my hands on a 2stroke 250 gp.
finding parts for those is only gonna get harder. used 250's are easy to find on wera. their value is really low.

I did the supermoto thing for a while and at first it's a hoot. AFter a fashion getting passed all day on the straights by 600's and 1k's after I worked so hard to get past them in the twisty bits got frustrating.
Now if I was on a track with only 450 SMs that might be a different story.
That said, I'm itching to slap on the slicks and hit the track.
I agree with GM on the Japanese bike thing.
how about the feeling of passing these 1000's and 600's in every corner on the brakes and hamfisting out of every corner sideways? maybe you should try supermoto if you want to race against 450's. supermoto junkie can point you towards your closest club. its way cheep compaired to road racing.

At first it was awesome stalking the big bikes and putting a pass on in the corner. But like most of us you always want to go faster and you always want to feel like you're progressing, even if it's just a track day.
Bottom line, any day at the track beats a day at work.

to contradict myself a bit, i have a neighbor that races a 125. talking to him really makes me think about it... i doubt i'll get into it, but he sure does make a compelling case for the tiny 2-strokes.

Yeah, I've been seriously thinking about one of them, until I get a reality check and realize 5'10'' 190 lbs and a 250 don't mix.

oh i hear ya.. 10-20 for me, and i'm taller than you. he's 'compact' but not small.. i'm just sayin' that if he can race the little rubber kids that have 50lbs on him, maybe a larger person can make use of a 250.
i'm sure we'd both look absurd tho =)

there are guys in our club who are faster on a 250 than 98% of the guys on 450's and above. if you are fast in the dirt you can school most roadracers and then block on them on the pavement and work your way through the pack and to the front. there are plenty of guys who are big racing 250's and are fast as stink.

Last track day I was at, I looked down the pit area and saw a guy with his RS125 in his pit.
Thinking, oh, hey, 125 2-strokes are cool, that might be fun.
Walked over....uhhhh...no.
Dude was Pedrosa sized.
Seat was about knee level.
At 6'1", I just don't fold up that small.
I've briefly ridden a TZ250, small, but it would be do-able.

a buddy of mine whom I was constantly going to the track with was always fidgeting with his TZ250 and he was 5-10/11 and weighing in at 175/180-ish and he had a block made to raise the seat height on the tailpiece about an inch in order to put him in his "sweet spot" and then he stopped fidgeting with the framework and just stuck to rejetting and riding it....it was crazy how fast he was about pulling out the carbs and switching jets between sessions and still have time to hydrate and pee and snack...LOL
