Short answer to (1) svp88 is, with difficulty.  If you pull the cylinder out the piston rings will spring out.  Not a walk in the park.

how will the piston rings spring out??? arent they hard to put on the piston??? if they are already in if you dont pull them out why would they come out?
havent done it b4.. but it doesnt make sense theoretically  ???

The rings are held against the cylinder walls by spring pressure.  When you remove the cylinder the rings will not fit back into the cylinder without the use of a ring compressor.  If you break a ring you will find they are very expensive.  You will also need a torque wrench for reassembly as well as a tool to allow access to the head bolts with the engine in the frame.  This tool can be bought or made by you.  From your posts it also seems you do not have a manual or enough experience to tackle this job.  Please do not become a source of inexpensive parts for ducatiz.

Leacking the oil from base gaket it is ordynary trouble an ducati's on small carter(400-800 air cooled engines)
the steel gasket mount with the liquid silicone gasket maker. Sometimes a workers to get it not enoug or not accuratley, and the oil start the leaking after few hours motor running on hi rev.

You need the remove the combo cilinder head/cilinder,remove the gasket (no damage it!) and cleaning the surfaces then with the gas or some one else like a carbvleaner liquid. After that you have refinish the surfaces a gasket maker, mount the steel gasket on the cilinder studs and mount the combo cilinder/cilinder head.
For the piston rings compression you gotta get the special wrench--it's not expencive and you can buy it on every motorwrench/motorparts markets.
For the cilinder head you gotta get the special wrench too-you can make it yourlelf or you can buy it on e-bay etc.
And don't forget the little O-rings in the oil lines--just don't to gone it.If you get it new--it's better choice.
Befor it at all--remove the timing belts covers and take a look at.
You'll see a markets in an engine case, and the bases of belt covers and on the belt pulleys.
Remove the spark plugs, get the 1'st speed and slowly turn the back wheel. When the marks on the pulley get the marks on the engine case and the belt covers, stop turning and get newtral.
IMPORTANT: when you will mount the head--the marks have not to change the position! if it will, you can destroy the engine when you get the start.

I'll try to get here some pics...if I'll can tu understand how it to do...
sorry for my bad english--I'm from Moscow.

idk why the poll is there. how do i get rid of it???

At the bottom of the page you should see a gray button that says Remove Poll.

You need a ring compressor, a torque wrench, and a special wrench for the head bolts. The head and cylinder are two pieces.

If you have the proper tools you can do the job.

Download the manuals (parts and workshop) and study them.  Take your time and do not rush it.   [thumbsup]

no problem bratan!!
thank you very much for your answer! and yes thats what im planning to do. i have all winter to work on it . i ll get the tools i need and go from there.
yea the mechanic who worked on the engine before didnt put the gasket properly. as long as i get the piston ring compressor the rest of the job will be easy.
yea i will put a longer screw to hold the belt position. you have no idea how  much the dealers charge here. for a valve inspection/adjustment they wanted 700$ and when i told them abt the leak from the head cylinder they asked for another 500$. its crazy. so i rather do it my self. ;)

Be sure to keep the torque tool at 90 degrees from the torque wrench (as in the picture), or the torque will not be accurate.  You can use any tool (crowsfoot wrench) that lets you access the nut with your torque wrench, as long as you can have those 90 degree of lever.
