Bick, I think your tire wear problem might just might be related to your right foot.  ;)

So forget about a Caddy or GT500, go out and get an Audi.  Either the 2011 RS5 or an older model RS4 will blow your mind.  Either cars an everyday driver and as someone has already said, Quattro ROCKS.

Owned a RED S4 and thought my life was complete until I got a Ducati...

Although I do love the RS5.....it needs a bit more to compete with the CTS-V on anything besides a fancy interior.

Here's a comparison test of the M3, CTS-V, and the RS5

Plus the Caddy's warranty is a little longer  ;)

I appreciate the suggestions. Any long term experience with Audi as far as reliability? I like the idea of AWD given that it rains a ton down here in the swamp.
The RS4 was first on my list until I checked around and found that they were virtually impossible to find. Not many were sold in the States.

Jesus, it sounds like an extended warranty would pay for itself with a Beemer, especially if I go used.

But... the Caddy is so ugly... so very ugly... why is it so ugly?  :'(

Aarash, pm with your wife's interests. What is she looking for in rotations? I did my internship, residency, and fellowship in New Orleans, but I went to med school in TX, so I don't know a ton about student rotations except in Ophthalmology. I can ask around for sure.

Let me add, a little belatedly, that a traditional manual tranny is a big plus in my eyes. I haven't owned anything with an auto in 14 yrs. I know the dual-clutch auto can shift faster than me, has shift paddles, yada yada yada... it's still a slushbox.
This is one reason I haven't really considered the IS-F. It's not offered with a manual.

+1 on the GTR

the owner of the company next to me has one and took me for a lil spin one day during which he said he would love to take my  848 for a ride. i told him only if i got to actually drive. he pulled over, got out, and opened my passenger door, and said dont get a ticket. that car was just a blast to drive.

on a side note, you could always get an older car, somthing that you have lusted for since you were a kid and have it restored with new go fast on rail kind of parts... just saying if it was me and i had 70k to throw at a fun " I'm sucessful look what i got " kind of toy then i would waste it on a  used viper and throw the extra money that i saved on a  turbo kit and other go straight to jail goodies.
it is so much easier to get forgiveness then it will ever be to get permission.

Not a bad thought. Talked to my car broker friend today, and he has a line on an 08 M3 with 20k miles for about $50k. I'm also seriously thinking about the 2011 BMW 335is (leaning towards it), and basically leaving the 335i off the list. I'll try to go up to Baton Rouge tomorrow and drive an S5, though it's supposed to be pouring. At least I get to see how the Quattro works  [thumbsup]

Oh, and sno duc, thanks for jogging my memory about the ED and PCD options. That makes the 335is sound even better.

If you're car anal like me and make sure everything is changed and serviced when it's supposed to, you won't have any issues with an Audi.  I have a 2001 A4 Avant that I love and will probably drive until it dies...which will hopefully be a while since it only has 83k miles on the odo.

F'ingBulldog said he gave you an honest opinion of the 335.  Maybe too honest.  Still on the list?

Face it.  You are now a successful sturgeon.  The rules state that you need to buy a MB S-Class.  Sorry, rules are rules.
It's all in the grind, Sizemore. Can't be too fine, can't be too coarse. This, my friend, is a science. I mean you're looking at the guy that believed all the commercials. You know, about the "be all you can be." I made coffee through Desert Storm. I made coffee through Panama while everyone else got to fight, got to be a Ranger.

Rules or no rules, I can't see driving a barge like that yet. Maybe sometime in the future.

I'm still thinking about the 335is. Flynnbulldog gave me honest feedback, but his criticism primarily centered around too many electronic driver aids. Name one luxurious car with high performance that doesn't do that these days. In driving the 3 series, I was impressed by how nimble it feels, and yet how comfortable it is.
I also like the price. I could spend up to about $75k, but I've got to say, this is the first purchase of this magnitude I've ever had the privilege of considering (aside from my house), and the heart rate definitely picks up when I think about spending the whole amount  :)

A couple of people have suggested Astons. Gorgeous, yes, but I can't quite afford that yet, the car or the maintenance  ;)
