Hi all. I'm in the market for my second bike and I figured why not make it a Ducati!
I'm looking for some first hand experience comparing the new 796 and a late S2R1000. I have read all the specs but I'm really after some anecdotal evidence on what they are like to ride/live with.

Any help would be great!

love my S2R, def wouldn't trade it for a 796

Anyone who has actually lived with both?

I've ridden both, does that count?

I'd take the DS1000 motor over the 796 motor any day.  That, and the S2R1000 has adjustable suspension bits which is a plus over the 796.  More aftermarket parts availability too.

I own a 696, dad rides an s2r1k.

I have put quite a few miles on his s2r1k and thousands on my bike. I can notice DISTINCTLY the many differences between the two bikes.

696 is slightly different than the 796. I'll provide my opinion if you want.

S2R1000 wins, hands down.

I have a 696 and i would gladly give it up for a S2R1000,  I know you are asking about a 796 but I would also give that up in a heartbeat for a S2R

So owning both you must have experienced how "heavy" the s2r feels dropping into a turn. Every time I ride the s2r I want to get back on my bike. The ergos can't compare, and when tearing up twisties it is certainly slower. Sure, an s2r might beat you in a straight (probably not on the 796) but trust me, apples to apples it can't keep up in the twisties.

Also, much better brakes on the 796.

Thanks for giving me something which sounds less biased. Most of these opinions, while I am grateful, seem quite one sided and don't offer much real information.

I say go ride both.

I can promise you the differences between the two bikes will be painfully obvious. Pay attention to ergonomics, and take the bikes into a few late turns and see what I mean about the "heavy" feeling.

The word heavy best describes it, slower to react and MUCH different than the newer 696/796. Amount of power:  696 vs s2r1k obviously the S2R wins. 796 vs s2r1k I'm not so sure about. The 796 may keep up with and may be faster. I cannot say for sure.

Again, I promise you will be able to determine what bike you want after a spirited ride on both.

S2R1000. Duh? [bang] What were you thinking? ;D Like Richard Pryor said in "Silver Streak" in 1976, "That's a jerk off, man. This here is pure pussy."

What if I throw an 1100s into the mix. Turns out I can pick a demo one up for almost the same price as a 796.
