Harbor Freight Soda Blaster..

Picked one up yesterday, with some of the coarse media.  Works great!  Def not as aggressive as a media/shell/shot blaster, but doesn't tear up rubber bushings and boots either (doing some suspension arms).   

Not sure if it would blast the paint off a duc case, but I'll try it this afternoon or tomorrow morning and let you know.

Don't forget to use the 20% off coupon if you pick on up at the store.  It was $150 - 20% + Tax, whatever that works out for you.

I've had one for a couple months, works great!!

I got a Bandit oil pan off eBay, and it looked bad:


After about 15 min. of blasting, followed by rinsing with water and drying with compressed air, it looked like this:

where do you buy the soda?

You can use the compound they sell at HF or you can just use straight up baking soda.  I was looking at those at the store today actually.  If you don't want to drop $150 the one I was looking at was like $40 I think, albeit I'm sure it was tiny by comparison.

Orrrr, if you have an air compressor at home you can go the route this guy did.

If you're blasting coins, then you can buy soda at the grocery store.

For bigger (or lots of) jobs, HF sells 50 lb. containers.

 It's going to take a lot more compressor than you might think to run continous. You only need 90 psi but you will need more cfm (cubic feet per minute) than any homeowner unit will put out.  The amount of cfm and media you use is controlled strictly by the size of the orifice in the nozzle. Bear in mind it wears with use.

Any chance soda blasting would strip the finish off a set of corroded and peeling coffin covers? I would just as soon refinish them as buy billet covers.

Sure, if you want to strip your aircraft carrier ?  See the review below, but it looks like one guy ran his 5 CFM compressor without any problems.  Even still, 8 CFM is not strictly industrial.  I am continually being told my 4 CFM unit won't run anything - it runs whatever I plug into it, I just couldn't make a living on it.  I am sure it would be fine for the projects listed here.
