Yup, it's supposed to sound like that....

« on: January 08, 2011, 06:36:02 PM »

Since we're such an opinionated group of individuals, I'm hoping the same will hold true for this post.
Picked up an S2R800 from a fellow DMF member.  Here's what's on tap for this winter:

Mods in progress -

Acewell 3962 digital gauge
LightWerks taillight with integrated turn signals
Monza belly pan
Oberon fuel tank cap
Marvin midpipe
Dual headlights
CRG levers
Electraeon fast throttle

And here's what's already been done thus far....

Speedymoto top and bottom triple
Speedymoto anodized steering stem and taper roller neck bearings.
Speedymoto Tall Boy clipons
Speedymoto Frame Sliders
Speedymoto Belt Covers
Speedymoto Sprocket Cover
Speedymoto Crankshaft Cover
Showa Fully Adjustable front forks. (GP suspension, custom shimstack and valving)
Penske full adjustable rear shock with Eibach spring
Brakes -  4 piston Brembo Goldlines fitted on the front with 320 MM rotors
Tailchop
Rear wave rotor
Black powdercoated u frame on headlamp assembly
Custom turn signals
New rear wave rotor

What the heck should I do next.  Have about $1K more to spend before the reason begins.

Thoughts?

I'd paint or powdercoat the U bracket and headlight brackets black. It is an easy mod and it looks good.  Remove the frame stickers.  If you want to save them you can stick them to the underside of your seat.  Hide the shock resevoir instead of emphasizing it.  The plain udder exhaust looks kinda dorky. I like boomtubes or full arrow exhaust on S2R's.  Powder-coat the swingarm to match the frame.

Paint the oil-cooler black or find a hypermotard cooler.  Reroute the oil cooler line from in front of the horizontal belt cover to the other side.

That whole exhaust needs to go badly. That udder is hideous.

You list Marving midpipes, what kind of cans? Any?

Different clip ons for further sweep back than TallBoys?

New black rearsets or powder coat the stockers?

Wrap the shock reservoir in black hockey tape?

Black SlingShotRacing/SpeedyMoto wet clutch cover?

Thanks for the options.  I didn't think anyone made a wet clutch cover. Definitely thinking that's a yes.  I'm not sure about cans yet.  I was thinking Akpro 2 in 1 cause they're rare and I think they look awesome.  But not totally sold on them since I love the raw pipes sound.  The rear shock is flat black, I just got tired of looking at it that way and wrapped it with some Red Bull.

I wonder how much powdercoating the rearset and swingarm will run me?

I totally agree...Thanks for sending me the pic of your bike.  All I can say is  drool [moto]

Paint the oil-cooler black or find a hypermotard cooler.  Reroute the oil cooler line from in front of the horizontal belt cover to the other side.

Thanks for the line reroute and painting recommendation.  When the headlights are swapped out, I'll be sure to paint the u frame.

+1 on ditching the udder.  Also, consider BST's.

front fender chop and engine paint seem to be the cheapest mods to do, albeit a bit time consuming and really change up the demeanor of the bike.

^ boo hate the look of a chopped fender. Matte black 848 fender to protect the adjustable fork sliders w00t
boo on the Marving midpipe. FULL ARROW FTW, FTBS(for the best sound waytogo)nothing else comes close

Lose the transplanted aluminum sidecover badge on the tank. Powder coat the swingarm, engine side covers, rearsets, and headlight bucket ring black. Lose the redbull can around the shock res.

vomit on the dual headlights

You won't be all that happy (and neither will your neighbors) with the sound of just mid-pipes.  You would be surprised at how effective the udder is at minimizing the sound of that motor.  Bare mid-pipes will be stupid loud.

Here are the first things I would do in price ascending order:
SBK front fender
RCS/Radial master cylinders
Lite weight wheels (probably go with the OZs if you didn't want to drop the dime on BSTs).

If you really want to get silly (time wise) get the swingarm powder coated black.

I'll also second the  boo on the dual headlights.

Bergdoerfer I love it.....

As much as I think Arrows rock and must be good for a reason, everyone recommends them.  Thinking something a little different.  That's why I'm partial to the Akpro's.

Did you have either your rearset or swingarm powdercoated?  If so, how much did you pay if you don't mind me asking...

Paid about $50 to have the rearsets, headlight bucket & ring, headlight hoop & bracket, & CW tailchop bracket beadblasted & powdercoated semigloss black. Got a good deal there because they were doing an assload of semigloss black that day. This was from some place in VA that's gone now.
I got a quote from Figure Engineering in Manassas; $150 for powdercoating the swinger, $40 for each engine case cover depending on the complexity of the masking. The rearsets I would guess to be another $30 or so. I left the heelguards and footpegs silver on mine. Do yourself a favor this time and go with experts who won't screw things up!
Haven't done the swingarm yet on my bike, or the engine cases. However I do have experience with a Quat-D midpipe which I had ceramic coated black, and fully cored stock mufflers. It's a good system but I'd rather have the full Arrows because they morph to a larger diameter after exiting the headers, and this makes them sound second to none and lets them flow a bit more freely. I suppose Zards do the same thing but they don't sound as good somehow. There are no Termi full systems for the bike that I know of, and Termis are way overrated anyway. ARROW FTW nothing comes close w00t
