You need to remember a couple of things...

Rossi took a dog of a bike and won his first race and turned the bike into the best on the grid against the mighty Honda

Old age and treachery my young friend.... Evil

yep.  not to mention that the shoulder issue could be smoke.

Then that would've been a pretty pregnant dog move by the GOAT towards Yamaha last year, dontcha think?

I think he is saying that the severity of his shoulder currently could be a smoke screen to veil some expectations out of him and the Ducati as a ploy coming out of the gate....

Recognized world wide, Jorge Lorenzo - The Spartan - is one of the fastest men on the planet, and has the most dynamic personality in the sport.

I love to be different than the others in my sport and I believe I've got that with ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK. This is my first American sponsor ever, and no other rider in MotoGP has an endorsement deal with ROCKSTAR.

Oh boy...I was starting to warm up to Jorge...until now.

I wonder who he learned that from, oh yes, his last teammate.

Damn, haters gonna hate, huh?

It's not Lorenzo's job to get sponsorships for yamaha, it's Yamaha's job. So he's supposed to turn down a sponsorship bc the sponsor didn't want to fund an entire team? Get real dude.

The part of the dynamioc personality is hiilarious though, that's a very delicate way of putting it

personal sponsors vs team sponsors...

if you think this is anything new, you haven't paid attention since, well, the dawn of time.

not hating...and I am being real and accept that personal sponsorships to a degree come 1st...and about his previous teammate...he brought sponsorship to the team...he brought on board Fiat for example when Yamaha was in the same boat they are now in the terms of whether to be flying their own bill and footing it all...money isn't flowing around the paddocks like it used to in the days of alchohol and tobacco sponsorships when anything can and did go in terms of getting financial support....what I am saying though is, if he was a champion and a team player looking to really fly the flag for Yamaha, he'd be out there using his champion chips to gain a team sponsorship...and this is for the team that in 2010 had the triple crown....instead, it seems the Yammy will go sponsorless and the rider(s) will have all the endorsements on his leathers/helmet and that will be that...and thus will be a lackluster year of development in terms of how this year will roll for them unless he plays the team card and helps gather some funds for the future....GP racing is far from cheap and the manufacturers only have but so much of an R&D/Racing budget to expend in the coffers since vehicular sales #'s seem to still be in a declining state...it ain't the same game it was 10 years ago...boyo Jorge needs to put some of himself out there for the team cause, unless he just doesn't care....

As I said before, not his responsibility. If you think for one second that any rider, even (or especially) Rossi, is gonna go out to find sponsorships for the team out of the goodness of his own heart, you're very very mistaken. This falls on Yamaha. If they were serious about getting a sponsorship, they would be PUTTING their champion out there, waving the flag, as you said. At the end of the day, the checks come signed by Yammy, and the riders will do what corporate tells them. If Yamaha is sitting on it's very plump ass, not doing what they need to get the sponsorship, the ENTIRE blame falls on them.

And I seriously doubt that it was Rossi who brought on Fiat. It was yamaha selling Rossi to Fiat.

Yeah Lorenzo is just an employee of Yamaha.  He doesn't run their race department, nor is he in any way shape or form responsible for securing sponsorship for the bike.  Yamaha's job is to find funding for their race department through sponsors.  Jorge will wear rockstar gear away from the track and year round, so its a different ballgame for them to sponsor him personally.  Also, I'm sure the price is a bit steeper to slap your name on the side of the bike anyhow.

Regardless of why Fiat sponsored Yamaha, there was no way they would stick around without the Italian cash cow representing an Italian automaker.  I don't know if Yamaha pitched Rossi to them, or they approached Yamaha just due to who Rossi is, but the simple fact is that Jorge lacks the same charisma and garners less interest for overall sponsorship opportunities.  Race celebrations are one thing ( and most are ridiculous enough to be entertaining ), but he just doesn't have the "it" factor when it comes to entertaining a world audience.

while I know that Rossi wasn't "charged" with the job officially for to find a sponsor for the squad, he used his connections to build that bridge for Yamaha(probably after someone came to him and maybe suggested in a friendly fashion that they need some help, since Camel his just signed off due to that aforementioned ban)...and remember, at that time, Furosawa and him and Yamaha were the best of friends and there was not a glimpse of any kind of disdain or future seperation...Lapo Elkann is very close friends with Rossi, and the head of Fiat's promotions/marketing department....so he, I am sure, used that network to introduce the right people for to make the team sponsorship happen via his F1 testing with Ferrari at the time...
