i know there is a post about running a 14 tooth sprocket on the front, so sorry i have to bring up another one, but my question is, i was at my local bike shop and dude suggested running a 14t front and 41t rear. any thoughts on this? what exactly will this do? he said it would pretty much increase my lower end power and decrease top speed. i guess thats right? and will it decrease gas mileage at all? I mostly drive in the city, some on highways and backroads, but its not often at all i get over about 80.

I changed my S2R 800 to a 14 tooth Sprocket and I was really happy with the results, When the sprockets come up for a change in about another 5000km's I will put the 15t back on the front and lift the rear 2 or 3 teeth, A lot of members have mentioned issues about more chain wear due to smaller diameter of the 14t Sproket and more wear and tear of the plastic Swingarm protectors.
I did find it easier in traffic, not having to ride the clutch as much to move away and I can now use 6th gear on the Highway, couldn't before as the gearing was to high and the engine revs were a bit to low causing some issues.

Adding 3 teeth in the rear is about that same as dropping 1 from the front. Not knowing what your stock rear size is, I'm guessing a bit, but I think you'd be dropping the ration even more.
You're going to be higher in the RPMs per given speed. Will you loose some top speed? Eh probably but if you're not tracking it you'd never know/miss it.
Mileage? Yeah that'll probably see a small hit. But keeping the bike in tune, drive line lubed and all that jazz will help

I have an '02 750s w/ 90% of my riding being done in Houston. I went 5 up in the rear (15f/46r) which is the equivalent of going down one the front (14t) and up two in the rear (stock was 41, also, the number of teeth is stamped on the sprocket) and that has made riding all kinds of more enjoyable. Two up seems to be easier on the driveline, start to motion transition is smoother, no noticeable decrease in mpg(that's not directly related to the exploitation of the additional acceleration) I'm sure I've lost 5-7 mph top end, but I say who gives a shit, 0-90 just got a whole lot more fun/efficient.

ok just checked what my shop wrote down, and its not 14 front/ 41 rear, its 14 front/ 40 rear. much difference?
