Anyone know what wattages the H1 and H7 bulbs are on a 2010 696??

Did a search and all I could find is a thread on that the bulb types/wattages were a misprint in the 2008 manuals. It also states that both the high and low beam are 55W....doesn't seem right Huh?

I don't happen to have a manual handy for my 2010 to see if it has been corrected.

I've been browsing E-bay checking out HID kits and am wondering if I should order up a 55W system or a 35W system for the low beam.

not sure, but how are you going to fit an HID system in that light?

55W is correct as per owner's manual.

Thanks for the info...

I went ahead and ordered up the 35W sytem for my low beam and the 55W system for my high beam.

Since HID is roughly 2-3 times the lumens of a halogen the 35W should be more than sufficient for the low beam and the 55W should be amazing for the high beam.

 I just hope my bike has enough juice to light them off..

From what I've researched the H7 low beam requires the inner reflector to be pushed forward slightly for HID bulb clearance. The H1 bulb seems like it will fit in the high beam with the same reflector modification (ie. bending it forward slightly). The ballasts and wiring will fit nicely behind the lower shrouds.

I will be installing the light early spring and will update with the results...

it works, here is my m1100 with 35 ddm slim ballast kit running 3000k bulbs.  the cutoff/output pattern is similar to stock with almost no hot spots in the light.

Thanks for posting that up rosstermyer and confirming the low beam will fit... I'm hoping the high beam H1 bulb will fit the same...

I was able to pick up both the high beam (H1 55W 6000K) and low beam setup (H7 35W 6000K) for less than $80 CAD by buying the ballasts seperately from the bulbs and making my own kits. All from e-Bay.

i ran into one main issue with the lighting.....

when i wired everything up with the plug-n-play kit with the hid ballast plugged into the low beam connector the ballast would buzz loudly and the light output was kind of pulsating instead of operating in a normal manner.  i had a simillar experience installing HID on a car that had daytime running lights.  i talked to DDM customer support which was really good, but we couldnt find a solution.

what i did works for me, but may not for you after reading what your ordered...

i simply hooked the hid kit to the high beam connector and still just mounted the bulb in the low beam housing.  so, i now have no high beam, but i really dont need it.  the HID is more than bright IMO,plus i never used the high beam anyway.  

i feel that this wiring method is better for the HID itself because i can manually turn the system on and off with the highbeam switch, thus eliminating it flashing on and off when the starter is hit.  i believe i read in multiple places that turning HID on and off rapidly is not very good for the system.

ill try to get some output pics...
EDIT:  sorry about the quality, facebook took it down a notch or two...as you can see the output is pretty good despite being in a reflector housing.  i sped up the shutter speed to compensate and not make it look brighter than it really is.  what you see is about what it is.  the bike is obviously on the sidestand, hence the crooked beam  chug

Very nice bike rosstermyer!  waytogo  Unfortunately there would be no way a person around here could get away with tucking the plate that far in.... The 5-0 is pretty strict that way. It looks great tho...


Strange issue with the ballast only firing off the high beam circuit on your bike. I hope I don't run into that problem...especially since I hope to run HID on my high beam also. The beam on yours looks nice and clean without the scattering that people mention regarding HID.

 Good news is I checked it out today and the 55W HID bulb will fit fine in the housing since there is no reflector like the low beam.
