"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the air—these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

Well, Vin, you can pass for not being American.   I personally, think that being an American, anywhere in the middle east, makes you a target.    But that's just me, I don't want any video of me getting beheaded, showing up on Youtube.

My first thought was "are you under 25? Would you like to run with the bulls or join fight club?" then yes, you should go.

However, 46 year old me says "hell no."

Nice romantic getaway? I'm not sure if it's "in season" right now (i.e. crappy weather) but Croatia, specifically  Dubrovnik, looks like something Disney made.

But it's way more of a "honeymoon" kinda destination.

New Zealand's pretty good if you want to plan some more EXTREME adventures. They got tons of that.

Shes calling me a pain in the ass.  I could use the help of the well traveled DMFers

(She asked me what DMFers were, I said Ducati Mudda Fuggas! she wasnt amused)

I've been to every place you listed except for J'burg and NZ.  I would rather not go to Jburg and I'd love to go to NZ.

However, my two favorite places to travel are Italy and Turkey.  We've been to Turkey 4 times and Italy we have gone almost every year for the last 10 years.  The best way to travel Italy is by bike, and the second best is by car -- start at Roma, and drive south to Sicily, stopping for a few days along the way at a few cities and towns or drive north to Como or Varese and do the same.  There is so much in Italy, it's just awesome to get lost and try out some of the small town ristorantes and trattorias.  You can go to the Ducati factory in Bologna and head down the road to Imola and see the Ferrari race track -- check the schedule for swap meets.  You have museums EVERYWHERE there and history just oozes.

Turkey is the same way -- lots of history, but the places you want to go are mainly Istanbul, Izmir and maybe Ankara if you like history.  There is stuff to see in the interior but a lot is inaccessible without a tour guide and driving in Turkey is a pain in the ass, but it's an amazing place to see if you like history.

Italy is more romantic, but yes, it's winter now...make the beast with two backs it, go to Switzerland or Leichtenstein.. we stayed at Bad Ragaz -- skiied and shot machine guns all day and stayed in the spa at night -- underground hot springs!

In Spain? Eat... I loved the food. Been to Barcelona, Malaga, Palma, and Rota. Catch a bull fight? Don't know how much you'd like to travel. But, you could catch a ferry to Palma. It's a huge party destination (if you're into that). You can make it to Gibraltar and to the top of the mountain. Play with the monkeys.
