Did a search and could not find an answer. Does a 2009 696 have a red key? The seller says he only has two black keys. Thanks, Mike.

Pretty sure the red key disappeared with the marelli ecu, so the answer would be that bike has no red key.

I can confirm that my wife's '09 696 did not come (new from a reputable dealer) with a red key, nor is there any mention of one in the manual.

make sure you get the code card.  In the event you loose your keys, this is how you register a new key with the ECU & gauges.  It's a red card with a picture of the key that works on your bike.  Mine is in a sleeve with a bar coded label.  The VIN is also on there.
