today i was headed home south on 287 (a 65 mph zone). there was a cop going north. i was passing three 18 wheelers that were lined up in a row. i was passing them at a reasonable rate of speed for IOM. however this was not the IOM. i saw the cop hit his lights when i was beginning to make my move. i kept going but slowed to around 80. when he caught me i was even with the first truck's cab. i pulled over to the left shoulder in a place where u can make a legal u-turn. the cop told me to get off the bike, take off my helmet, etc. when he approached me asked to frisk me which i had no problem with. i told him what was in my back pack. gave him my license and insurance and off he went. he came back later and told me that i was at least doing "ninety-five". yes you read that correctly. he asked why so i explained to him how dangerous it is to be around 18 wheelers when on a motorcycle. needless to say after thorough explanation by me.......the johnson county hillbilly sherriff bought it. he let me off with a warning.
couple of notes. first when i saw him hit the lights i literally yelled make the beast with two backs in my helmet. second i thought maybe he didn't write me because i should be awarded the academy award for best performance or because we had crossed county lines. a former pd officer told me there is no real jurisdictional lines. another has said that it was because he didn't have his radar on initially and he was taking a guess. GOOD GUESS!!! whichever you want to believe i got off with a warning. i thought the speed limit was 60, my wife said 70 and we were both wrong it is actually 65 there.
lastly anyone who has ridden with me knows my bike is allergic to the speed limit.

Indeed! I was considerably lucky also, a cop gave me a ticket for speeding (yeah....still lucky), speed limit was 55...and I was going 84 (according to him using Vascar), instead of getting criminal  traffic, he checked civil traffic. I attended a defensive driving school and pretended nothing happened. It could have been worst. I guess next time I need a better excuse, huh?

Nice one CC!  An Arlington cop lowered my speed below the 85 (?) limit to be a good guy.  I continued to eat dim sum with Tommy and Charles.

It's been my experience when pulled over in A-town or Mansfield, if you pull right over, they cut you a lot of slack.

That's a LOT cheaper than a parking ticket at the "Grand" Canyon.

Apparently my acting skills aren't as good.  Just got nailed on the Dallas N. Tollway.  84 in a 65.  I pulled right over, took off the helmet, gloves and handed over my docs.  Very friendly conversation but still a 10% over the limit violation.  I suppose he could have been a jerk and put me at 85 instead of 84.  Either way  bang head bang head bang head

Oh well, cost of doing business.   Evil

Good to hear some bikes are getting a little slack.  I've yet to receive any form of ticket other than parking on my motorcycle, but did get a 105 in a 65 at gunpoint some years back in my car.  I felt lucky just to avoid handcuffs.  It was down in Ennis and they were not pleasant whatsoever.  Neither was the ticket.

Troopers are a hassle and meaner than shit sometimes, especially on the Tollway.

Only Troopers stalk the Tollway I hear.  They seem to take things more seriously than the blues.

If my job was driving the Tollway 8 hours a day, and having to talk to the stupid drivers there, I would be pretty grumpy...  The 20 minutes i spend on it every evening is enough for me...
