I'm not so sure.
So many decisions being made, things in isolation can look crazy.

Well, the shit finally hit the fan.
The shop has been very busy since the start of the year. At this pace we'll beat last year if things stay the way they are now.
But that's the thing. They're not staying as is. We're moving several levels up the food chain.
I got connected with a new customer, friend of a friend sort of thing. Same story I've heard often. Bad quality, spotty delivery etc.
I saw the bad parts. I would never have sent them out the door looking they way they did. But that's just me.
Anyway, I've done a lot of quoting, about 12 parts all in all. Long term we're set to become their prime supplier for these valve components. In the short term we're getting set to make a bunch of parts that have been redesigned and are going to replace old design parts already in the field.
Their first order with me is gigantic, in my eyes. These guys could grow us 3-7x where I'm at now.

You'll be fine...
...
but...machines are easy to find.
Where are you gonna find warm bodies that can run them?

At least set up a separate company to serve them. Legally waterproof sealed off from your first company.

There's really no need. We're set up to handle this kind of thing. We're pretty well protected.

I have ugly stories and even uglier memories about this sort of thing ending badly.
Does not mean that has to happen or always happens.
As long as you have contingency plans built around the eventuality of that purchasing agent saying "No more." and walking out your front door.
A former employer had a customer who was providing 50% of our work, evaporate over a few months.
We collapsed about a year and a half later.
Maybe it's the water we northern european people drink.
