Well, had some excitement recently.

Got a call from our bank.

Bank - We have a gentleman here wanting to cash a check and we need to confirm it's not fraud.

ML - what's his name and how much?

Bank - Stealy McStealerson, about $3000

ML - I don't know anyone by that name. You should call my wife, she does payables.

Bank calls wife, can't get her. Calls me back - We need an answer.

ML - ask him what it was for?

Bank - Ok, hang on...

Bank is then able to get my wife. - Sir, we got your wife and she said it's fradulent.

ML - release the hounds.

They were able to keep him there, stalling, until the local PD came and arrested him.

I went to the branch and thanked the lady that red flagged all this.

A couple days later I called and got the detective assigned to the case.

Unknown/unnamed men enlisted a homeless man with ID, and printed a check from the back of a rental vehicle with my account and routing numbers. They offered him $100 to try and cash it.

What they had done was take all the mail out of one of my vendors mailbox. We had sent them a check for some weld work they did for me.

They just used our numbers in their print job and gave it a shot.

ML - so what happens to this guy?

Detective - Fine, not likely any jail time.

ML- Death penalty not on the table, huh?

Detective - laughs
