How hot is too hot for CF

I just ordered a full exhaust for my bike. The company didn't offer carbon as an option for this particular configuration. I talked them into giving me a carbon can , but they won't warranty the can if it gets to hot. They just haven't tested it yet. Do you think I should be worried?

I don't see why. People have been running carbon cans for quite a while. Don't know about carbon, but fiberglass which is similar is good to over 2000 degrees.

The weak part of CF products is the epoxy resin.  Many of them begin to distort around 200F.  Some HT prepregs claim they can go to ~200C.  Your can will be fine as long as the packing is ok.  When it blows out (after many miles) and the hot exhaust hits the inside of the can, it will damage it.  Probably will start at the inboard end, and you may be able to chop the damaged part off and keep riding.  For now, enjoy it.    [thumbsup]

alright you are going to have to pony up some photos for this one.

what did you order and why would the company be worried about the heat...

I've been looking for a 2-1 system for the 1100, unable to find one I was considering building one out of a hypermotard system. Then Ungeheuer posted this

SC doesn't currently offer a carbon can for this system, but I talked them into giving me one.  [evil]

Good job talking them into it!  That is going to look very nice  [thumbsup]

I wonder why they were concerned?

I'm excited......... I think it's a good deal too, under $1100 shipped for a full system. Some slip ons for this model are going for close to that.

You're welcome  ;D

Ofcourse I like my Termi Full System.  I like it lots.  But.....  if I was making the decision over again today..... I'd buy this SC-Project exhaust without a second thought.  It looks absolutely fanbloodytastic and the price only adds to its appeal.  Can't wait to hear what you think of it DN  [thumbsup] [thumbsup].

That SC exhaust is pure awesome. Opens up the wheel and gets it down to one can, both add a lot of character to the bike.

That is BY FAR the best looking exhaust I have seen for a new monster.  Very nice!

Doesn't it look like the right turn signal is being blocked by the can?
