I find it hard to believe that witnesses can determine the speed of any vehicle without a radar gun.
I also find it hard to believe that the driver of the SUV took the step to clear the lanes visually before initiating the U-turn.
and the center of gravity of a Honda CRV would make sending it over while in a turn pretty easy. at least easier than people are making it.
do i think possibly the rider was speeding.. sure..
do i think it led to the accident... no
do i think if he had not he could have reacted to the boneheaded driver... maybe
too many times people cite speeding as the cause of an accident.
speeding only makes those actions happen faster which are unsafe.
you have to predict sooner, you have to focus more, and you better hope your reactions are lightning quick.
but is it a cause... no
but just my opinion
I can't tell their speed, but I can tell if they are speeding pretty easily if they are 10ish or more over.
From the photos, I am guessing it was significant speed, and it would be the cause of the accident. I see dumb bikers riding 30+ over all the time here. I am in tune to it, but if my parents were in town visiting, they would not be, and could pull out in front of them? If people want to survive long term on bikes, they should plan on staying close to the speed the rest of the flow when encountering traffic.
