How about the GT1000? It's got a better riding position.

Oh, and the DP Comfort Saddle makes quite a difference.

I can't wait until Marquez gets on his level and makes Jorge trip on his tampon string.

Absolutely. Don't know why they couldn't make the damn seat comfy in the 1st place

I kinda like the 06 stylin' with the mono and dry clutch but my concern was why they changed it so quick from one year to the next. I haven't heard of problems but the I haven't been looking for them either. Besides, I don't like buying new. Call it my way of recycling or just call me a cheap bastard but used is for me.
I do like that PS you got Duc L'Smart...talk about extreme though, those just make my back ache looking at them. Seriously though, I'm a young enough guy and fit enough to drink lots of beer so I bet the position won't be a huge deal. As it is I feel a little cramped on the S2R and was told I look a little bunched up on it just the other day. And I agree...the GT is just. How do I say this without offending people. Well, I am not 60 yet.
Anyhow, I like the S2R but, as any dog would be, I've already got my eye on a new cat.

If you could swing a few more $$$ for a PS, I would HIGHLY recommend it

One positive is that you might be able to find a great deal on a slightly used one.
One negative is that all the chrome on the bike is cheap fake chrome over plastic. Another negative is that they don't look so hot next to a 70's 750 GT.
I really like the red-framed Sport 1000S. I wish they made this one with the Paul Smart suspension and no fairing.

The ergos is the only downside. I would love to have one as a second bike.
my point exactly. one of the reasons i purchased my monster is because of the comfort issue. But i do like the other 1000cc retro bike they have. i forget the model number. but i tell you this. i rode my friends r-6 the other day and man couldn't wait to get back aboard my eighthundred. and the next day, i was with him and some other friends and they kept saying how much fun the monster is to ride and how comfortable it is. and i wondered to myself," why if its so fun to ride, why don't they have one too?"

The Sport 1000 is an amazing bike. One of my faves. The only real downside for me is ergos. Very extreme riding position. Not bad for an hour or so, but can get painful after that. You can get ST3 bar risers to fix that though. The new Sport Biposto comes with the risers, and has the pipes on both sides instead of one, and dual shocks.
You will discover that the ST3 risers are higher than the kit supplied by Ducati for the Sport. Will depend on sleeve length. IMHO if you have 32/33 sleeve length you will want risers.

No comparison, brakes and suspension are way down compared to the sport as it shoould be for it's intended purpose. Very Tall too. The motor is also in a different state of tune so performance is a little down. - Gene

Get the Classic. Especially an 06. Last year Ducati put a dry-clutch in.
Like others have stated. They are not very common among Ducs in general. So your cool factor will go up when you ride it

DO IT! I have a long story (tinged with regret) concerning this very concern. I had the chance to get a very low milage, modified '06 Sport 1000 but it slipped away from me. I loved that bike and even though I really like my new D675, I would kill to get my hands on another cherry S1000!!

Get the Classic. Especially an 06. Last year Ducati put a dry-clutch in.
As I understand it, they only put the wet clutch on the GT1000 and left the Sport 1000 Biposto and the Sport 1000s with a dry clutch. Old codgers don't like loud noises. Startles them.
Also keep in mind that the Sport 1000s has a steering damper, where the Sport 1000 and the Sport 1000 Biposto do not, and you cannot mount the 1000s damper on the 1000, mono- or biposto, because the tank is a different shape and the key is in a different location.
I whole-heartedly believe that the main reason they went to the Biposto for 07 and beyond is because the thing is sooooooo sexy that you need to be able to have a cutie ride cupcake, cause they're gonna ask. Aside from the ergos, that's my only "complaint."
These are the sacrifices we have to make for our motorcycling passion.
