I was thinking about the next Turismo today and when and where it might be. So I found this spiel on the Aus Ducati site. It must have been written this year as they refer to the 2010 Tas Turismo as "last year".

"11TH Ducati Turismo

Planning for the next Ducati Turismo is already under consideration for an event within the next 24 months. The 10th Anniversary event held in Tasmania last year was a great success and we wish to ensure that the 11th edition of Ducati Turismo will be an equally enjoyable experience for all participants in every aspect from the locations, the route and of course food, wine and hospitality.
One significant change already planned for future Turismo events will be making the event Ducati exclusive, in past events friends riding non-Ducati motorcycles were allowed to join the event, however from the 11th edition onward it will be a Ducati exclusive event. More information and updates will be posted as planning for the event continues.
"

Looks like there won't be any more ring ins but 24 months!!!! WTF? Might have to organise my own then.

Dont know how the hell they are going to stop anyone riding on a public road and just happen to be going the same way at the same time.
Maybe the event is getting too big for them to handle  Grin

Hi Leigh
I was thinking about it last week too and found the same info.  Yep 24 months WTF indeed.  It seems a Tassie turismo always throws them out.

Don't know why the change about inviting non-ducs, I never heard any complaints.

Mmick.  Sure they can't stop ring-ins.  But they don't hand out the maps for the day's ride until the evening before.  Meaning you have to go to the organised function (or know someone who did go).

I'd really like to do a Tourismo, i have planned to do the last two but just couldn't find the time. 24 months is a huge lead time though, i have trouble planning 6 months ahead.
I never really understood why people would want to go on a Ducati organized ride if you ride a something else. Unless of course you own a Duc and chose to ride your other bike for the event. But then i guess they are talking about ringin's or friends of Duc riders.

So what are you doing in the next 24 months!

Oh man 24 months of waiting - probably have a Diavel by then so that will be ok  laughingdp

I have had Ducatis on and off for the 15 odd years but never heard of the Turismo till I got on this site - yes I have lived a sheltered life!  I am pretty keen to attend the next event!  [moto]

Ive been on the turismo. Its a great event that I hope goes ahead soon. Last month by chance I was talking to one of the organisers and they said there were a few problems of non Ducati riding guests grossly exceeding the speed limits and the organisers having to explain why. So i think that the next event might be Ducati riders only. Also the other feeling I got from the conversation was that turismo may be open only to the touring bikes.

Of course its only non-ducati riders who grossly exceed speed limits.  Wink

After all, biked of this marque are made for riding in straight lines on fair weather days and are powered by very docile tractor engines..   [moto]

 Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

Yes I know the Tassie one concerned some locals.  But I don't think it was only non-ducs.  The problem was we were all bunched up too much. Maybe the rider's briefing needed to include a chat about pulling our heads in!

I seem to remember on the SA one that it was a bunch of local hypermotard riders that were doing some ballistic speeds in the hills.

They will ruin turismo by putting these restrictions on it.   Cry
So I suppose people will just start their own turismos and boycott the official one.

I think that may be even worse ... what was it three years between the last two - 2007 to 2010?

Exchnage rate could be a bit different by the time the next one rolls around.

As for Turismo ...

I think the call about non-Ducati riders is correct from what I saw last year. I shall neither confirm nor deny there were Ducati riders exceeding the speed limit (although on occasion some may have even been a little impatient or inconsiderate). But there was a group (one on an Aprilia and a couple of ... cough, cough ... Jap sportsbikes) that were downright dangerous on occasion. When there are 100+ Ducatis, the odd misbehaving non-Ducati does stick out like the proverbial.

The two year thing - at the conclusion of the last one they did suggest within 2 years indicating to me later this year ... perhaps this still stands, perhaps it doesn't.

But I believe it has probably reached saturation point anyway. This type of event (country riding) presents a logistical nightmare. Night-time venues and accomodation become a problem. The sheer number of riders presents problems throughout. The mass start obviously creates a lot of problems but the delays last all day ... every fuel stop or lunch break is lengthened because everybody is on the same route with the same deadline.

Don't get me wrong it is a very good event ... but it certainly has its limitations and I suspect is not for everyone.

I agree with you Betty in that we were all bunched up together.  Maybe that's just a problem with Tassie being a small island. Or maybe the routes could have been planned better.  There was certainly a lot of debate over the roads they sent us down and the ones that were missed out.

The previous Turismo in SA was nowhere near as crowded even though we had the same number of attendees.  It was just that we were spread out alot more. Which I'm sure would happen with another mainland tour with the proper planning.
